‘I was in smug mode, now I’m in UBER-smug mode!’: The Chase’s Mark Labbett gets impressive 151 IQ score and jokes he’s a ‘lazy genius’ on Road Trip spin-off show
The Chase’s Mark Labbett scored an impressive 151 IQ score on Thursday’s episode of The Chasers’ Road Trip: Trains, Brains and Automobiles.
The quizzer, 55, joined his co-stars Anne Hergerty and Shaun Wallace where the trio had their intelligence tested during the hour-long show.
Talking ahead of the IQ examination, Mark admitted that he was ‘nervous’ as his score might dispute his claims of being a ‘genius’.

He said that he had never sat an IQ test, adding: ‘The pressure is self-imposed… I want to do well!’
The Chasers were told that they were doing an adult intelligence test but the examination can be taken by anyone from the age of two-and-a-half.
To which Mark quipped that he would have brought his three-year-old son, who he shares with estranged wife Katie, 28, to the test if he had known. The couple split in August after seven years of marriage.
He said: ‘I was born with the ability to do sums very quickly, my dad and my granddad had it. I hope my son’s got it. He can count up to about 15/16 at the moment.

‘Will he be as smart as me? Part of me hopes he will but another part of me thinks as long as he enjoys who he is. The key thing is, he appears to be healthy, which we would all like for our child.’
After the examination, The Chaser discovered that he had scored an impressive 151 IQ score. Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking had IQ scores of 160.
70% of the population score between 85 and 115, with the top 2% scoring over 130 with an invite to elite group Mensa.

After his result, a delighted Mark exclaimed: ‘I was told a total genius is 150, so I’m a pretty poor genius, but a genius I am. I was in smug mode now I’m in uber-smug mode!’
He jokingly added: ‘I have no doubt that the reason Shaun has done way better in his career than I have in mine, is he works far harder than I do. I’m lazy, a genius, but lazy.’
Anne, 62, scored a 137 IQ score while Shaun, 60, got 96 as the trio received their results at the same time.

Shaun was told by the examiner that he was a ‘perfectionist’ and took too long taking his time on the test, which pulled the score down.
To which the barrister admitted that he had ‘nothing to prove’ and that as part of his job, he works ‘methodologically’ and ‘correct’, rather than ‘quick and wrong’.
Shaun added: ‘Mark and Anne have a natural gift, mine is mainly hard work. Children shouldn’t worry about an IQ score, I’m a firm believer intelligence can be learnt.’
He also jokingly added that Mark hadn’t let ‘anyone forget’ his impressive high IQ test score after the examination.

Elsewhere, Anne noted: ‘A high IQ doesn’t guarantee success in life, my father had an IQ of 161 and he was an idiot. Couldn’t hold a job, relationship, he had no life coping skills at all!’
Taking to Twitter after the show aired, Mark tweeted: ‘We all got 100% on the General knowledge part of the test #smugmode #chasersroadtrip.’

For example, the same amount of people score 70 as people who score 130.
Although the accuracy of intelligence tests is somewhat disputed, they are still widely used.
For Mensa, the acceptance score requires members to be within the top two per cent of the general population.
Depending on the IQ test, this can require a score of at least 130.
