Teri Hatcher does a tutorial for dying roots at home

Teri Hatcher, 55, reveals her grey roots while sharing DIY hair-dye tutorial to help women in quarantine

Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher took to Instagram with a tutorial on how to dye away her gray roots using products at home.

The actress, 55, revealed that she is ‘one of those people who have been dying their own hair for years – decades,’ while sharing DIY tips with fans during the coronovirus lockdown.

Can-do attitude: Teri Hatcher took to Instagram last week with a tutorial on how to dye away her gray roots using products at home

In the clip, the television star began with some reminiscing: ‘Many, many, many years ago when I was doing Desperate Housewives, I started dyeing my gray roots myself because I didn’t have time to go to the salon.’

In fact, Teri said she would end up dying her roots at midnight in her own bathroom after her daughter was in bed.

‘That was what felt comfortable to me,’ Hatcher said.

She captioned the beginning of the video with a heading that said, ‘Getting rid of the gray day’.

Do it herself: Teri, 55, revealed that she is ‘one of those people who have been dying their own hair for years — decades’ after being too busy to go to the salon when shooting her show

Then, Teri almost made the reference that she was a Desperate Housewife about to start dying her hair, but ‘I’m not desperate, and I’m nobody’s wife, so I’m really just a woman who’s dying her grey hair!’ she continued, giggling brightly.

Next, Hatcher used the time-lapse effect to show the first few steps of her at-home dying process, being careful to isolate her roots and not get colorant on her forehead.

In the middle, Teri slowed the video down to show viewers what she was doing, and how she was making sure to separate and dye her roots at quarter-inch intervals.

Meticulous: In the middle of the process, Teri showed viewers what she was doing, and how she was making sure to separate and dye her roots at quarter-inch intervals

She then shared perhaps the most valuable piece of advice when it comes to at-home hair coloring: ‘You don’t really want to be in a rush when you’re doing this.’

Later, after indulging in a head massage while rubbing the rest of the hair dye product into the ends of her hair, Teri returned in a lovely beige sweater to inspect her roots, which looked lustrous and dark.

For a finishing touch, Teri referred to her famous ‘Lois & Clark bob’ before she blew dry her hair straight, and at the end, she said she was ‘kinda happy’ with her new ‘self-isolation hairdo.’

Hatcher signed off by wishing that her viewers ‘stay safe, stay sane’ during this time.
