Best-selling author Tara Westover’s memoir “Educated,” about growing up in a Mormon survivalist family that kept her out of school till she was 17, was named Amazon’s Best Book of 2018.
But the author was even more shocked to receive another accolade: being named to Barack Obama’s summer reading list.
“It is definitely not a sentence I thought I would hear ever in my life,” she told us at the Pierre at the New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children’s spring luncheon, where she spoke. “[Michelle] Obama has been very supportive and generous as well.”
Said NYSPCC’s co-chair Vicky Cornell: “I think her story is just the right amount of shock for this type of crowd.”
