TALK OF THE TOWN: Spitting Image goes woke with tennis star Emma Raducanu and Greta Thunberg lecturing the world as ‘female voices of reason’

Spoiler alert – Spitting Image has gone woke. It may sound unthinkable for the satirical programme, but its Christmas special will feature ‘inspirational young female voices of reason’ such as Emma Raducanu and Greta Thunberg according to its lead female impersonator Jess Robinson.

‘They are being shown as a lot cooler than people like Melania and Ivanka Trump,’ Jess told me at a Lambeth Palace concert for the Ronald McDonald children’s charity.

‘I’m doing Emma sympathetically. She and Thunberg will be pointing out that the rest of us are bonkers.’

No surprise then that anti-woke Foreign Secretary Liz Truss will get a going-over in the show.

Autumn Phillips, ex-wife of Princess Anne’s son Peter, is winding down her firm SupercarGB, which offers driving holidays for the mega-wealthy.

It owes £15,000 to creditors, but as Autumn, 43, looks set to get engaged to property tycoon Donal Mulryan, that shouldn’t worry her too much.

Meanwhile, Peter, 44, has wound up his company XF Medical, launched at the start of the pandemic. He didn’t get any testing contracts but the business did come in useful once – giving him an excuse to visit girlfriend Lindsay Wallace in Aberdeenshire under the guise of ‘work’ during lockdown.

There is one upside to jetlag, according to Coldplay star Chris Martin – you get to binge-watch Gogglebox. Rather than lie awake in the middle of night as the band fly around the world on tour, Chris says he catches up with the stars of the Channel 4 series. Referring to Gogglebox veterans Jenny and Lee, who watch shows from their caravan, Chris says: ‘I have a soft spot for the lady and the man on the couch in the trailer park.’ He’s so rock ’n’ roll!

The merry wife of Windsor

With the Royal Family in so much turmoil, it’s good to see some members of the House of Windsor smiling. Here’s Freddie Windsor, son of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, and actress wife Sophie sharing a giggle last week while out near their West London home. The pair, who married in 2009, haven’t always had much to laugh about – Sophie was in a horror car crash three years ago.

Billy Connolly wants the drinks to be on him when he dies. But the comic isn’t planning a lavish wake – instead the 79-year-old wants his gravestone on a Loch Lomond island to be installed flat like a table so that fishermen can put their cuppas on it!
