Former Strictly Come Dancing professional Ian Waite, 49, has taken a surprising swipe at some of the BBC show’s dancers who seemingly didn’t respond too well to his critique on spin-off show Strictly: It Takes Two. The ballroom and Latin dance expert regularly weighs in on the celebrity contestants and their professional partners’ rehearsals for the show alongside host Zoe Ball, 49.

During an appearance on FUBAR Radio’s Access All Areas, Ian told hosts Stephen Leng and Bobby Norris: “There are some pros who don’t like you saying anything against them.

“But they can stuff it!”

Ian didn’t give any names or specific details on which of the professional dancers reportedly didn’t like his remarks.

However, he did add that most of the dancers who took issue with his comments are not on the show anymore.

When pressed on if he could name names, the star replied: “Most of them are gone now!”

Ian also shared his opinions about Strictly judge Bruno Tonioli when quizzed on if he would be missed from the upcoming series.

It comes after speculation that Bruno may be unable to travel back to film both Dancing With The Stars in America and Strictly, as he usually would, because of coronavirus travel restrictions.

Addressing Bruno’s place on the panel, Ian divulged: “Do you want the honest truth?

“I love Bruno for the entertainment value, but nothing else.”

He continued: “He doesn’t really say anything technical. He’s not really the technician of the panel.

“It’s like, how many arms can I flail around and how expressive can I be?”

The current judges on the show include head judge Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse, Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno.

Former X Factor judge Cheryl is currently the bookies favourite to replace Bruno if he is unable to fly back to the UK for the 2020 series.

Ian’s fellow former Strictly pro Natalie Lowe, who was a part of the line-up on the show for seven years, recently spoke out about the rumours.

She suggested Cheryl isn’t experienced enough to be a judge on the panel in an interview with Closer Magazine.

Natalie told the publication: “[A] Strictly judge can’t be just anyone.

“You need someone compassionate, who can give constructive criticism, and someone who thoroughly understands the genre.

“Cheryl is amazing, and she’s been on The Greatest Dancer and The X Factor. She’s an incredible dancer, too.”

Natalie continued: “But ballroom dancing is so nice – it’s so technical.

“I think someone with more in-depth knowledge would suit better.”
