Strictly Come Dancing’s new It Takes Two host is revealed as Fleur East

Fleur East has been announced as the new host of Strictly Come Dancing ’s companion show It Takes Two.

The former contestant and star on the BBC One competition beamed as she arrived in the studio on Friday night’s episode of The One Show.

"It's a lot to take in isn't it. How did you feel when the call came?" presenter Alex Jones asked.

"I couldn't believe it, I still can't believe it in some ways," Fleur grinned excitedly. "I was with my husband, we were away, and I got a call from my agent. I was like 'why am I getting a call now, this is weird, this is fishy.'

"She started doing all the pleasantries, and then moments later she was like 'you've got It Takes Two'. And I could not believe it."

The star went on to say there was "no inkling" before she went away she'd managed to nab the incredible role, and joked it was the "worst thing ever" trying to keep the secret.

"I was walking around just trying to forget about it, but the funniest thing was the social video, I tried to get the biggest boots I could find. And speaking of, with Rylan gone, I have some big boots to fill," the star added with a laugh.

Earlier in the day, the BBC had posted a sneak-peek video on the station’s official Twitter account showing a pair of white boots dancing some steps ahead of the announcement.

"Who’s ready to rumba as the new host of #Strictly It Takes Two?" the caption read. "Watch @BBCTheOneShow tonight from 7pm on @BBCOne and @BBCiPlayer to find out!"

The announcement follows Rylan Clark's decision to step down as host of It Takes Two after four years. He joined the show in 2019 alongside Zoe Ball, who stood down after 10 years on the programme in 2021 and was replaced by former Strictly pro Janette Manrara.

Announcing his decision to quit in April, Rylan, 34, said "After 4 fantastic years it’s time for me to hang up my glittery jacket and say goodbye to It Takes Two. I’ve had the best time hosting the show alongside Janette and Zoe and I can’t thank the amazing team enough for always putting on a great show.

“I’ve been welcomed into the Strictly family and will firmly hold that title dear to me. The time has come for me to pass on the baton to someone else and explore what else life has for me.

“Thank you Strictly, you will always have my heart… and my dancing feet.”

It Takes Two first aired in October 2004 and is broadcast from Monday to Friday on BBC Two at 6.30 pm during the run of the main show. The show typically features interviews and training footage of the couples competing in the main Saturday night show, alongside opinions from the judges on the previous show.

It was originally hosted by Claudia Winkleman until 2010, with Zoe Ball taking over in 2011. Speculation has been growing over who would replace Rylan Current in recent weeks

Current host Janette even teased that husband Aljaž Škorjanec would be the ideal replacement – especially given Aljaž quit Strictly Come Dancing as a professional last year. According to the Daily Star, she said: "I'm not being biased, he's my husband, but if I'm gonna have a TV husband, who is better than my actual husband?"

Earlier this week pregnant Janette shared an intimate photo of her growing baby bump. With her due date drawing nearer, the 39 year old took to Instagram to post an image of her on a hospital bed having a sonogram – with 4D images of the baby visible on the screens above the bed.

The presenter simply captioned the sweet photo: "Little one is growing well and healthy!"
