Stars' desperate bids to maintain their celebrity

Becoming famous is one thing, staying that way is an entirely different proposition.

Over the past few days Australia has witnessed several famous faces going to extraordinary lengths to maintain their celebrity, and it would seem at any cost.

Like the supposedly candid images of the socialte formerly known as Kate Fischer, who now goes by the name Tziporah Malkah, and who has developed an odd habit of walking down public streets in her bed sheet, just as a paparazzo happens to be in the vicinity.

The latest shots showed her walking out of a Pyrmont bottle shop with a bottle of champagne, in full hair and makeup. The photos were soon bought up by the usual tawdry media suspects. Her agent Max Markson, the same man who negotiated her excrutiating appearance on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here during which her emotional meltdowns were nightly events, was revelling in his client's latest star turn.

Markson denied he organised the latest pap photos, but defended it as a revenue stream for Malkah.

Malkah has been very open about her mental health battles in the past. She became a recluse after her life was overexposed during her years with billionaire James Packer.

Why she would seek out the limelight again, and be held up to potential ridicule in a bed sheet, remains a mystery.

It was only two months ago that Malkah's lawyer said his client was no longer drinking alcohol, after she pleaded guilty in South Australia to assaulting her former boyfriend in a booze-fuelled rage in January.  The court heard that when police officers arrived, Malkah was loud and abusive, swore and threw herself onto the ground.

Not a good look, with or without a bed sheet.

Todd McKenney.

On Tuesday entertainer Todd McKenney's brother-in-law, fellow performer and 1980s hearthrob Simon Gallaher, labelled McKenney a "headine whore" after McKenney appeared on a small community radio station in Melbourne to drop one almighty bombshell that reverberated nationally. McKenney effectively outed Gallaher as his former lover of five years who went on to marry his sister, Lisa.

On Tuesday night Gallaher posted on his Facebook feed: "I have only one thing to say. Todd McKenney is a Headline Whore. Shame on him. His sister on the other hand is the love of my life and wife of over 31 years. I love her to the end of the world."

Simon and Todd McKenney's sister, Lisa Gallaher, married for 31 years.

Last weekend a pre-recorded interview McKenney gave to Melbourne's Joy FM, which caters to the LGBTI community, was broadcast. McKenney had two days between recording the interview and it giong to air to warn his family of the very sensitive nature of his discussion.

McKenney said on air: "I have a sister. She is 11 months older than me, she married my ex boyfriend. We have a weird relationship."

"I'll be reading about this everyhwere, but I don't care."

However his sister Lisa certainly did care, as did his niece Gigi, who vented her rage to the radio station, admonishing them for "outing" her father.

The price of fame can be terribly high, though it remains to be seen if Malkah and McKenney are getting their money's worth.
