The billionaire family of Brooklyn Beckham’s wife Nicola Peltz has been criticised for spending $3.5million (£2.7m) on the couple’s lavish wedding in Palm Beach, Florida this weekend.
The newlyweds said ‘I do’ on a stage garlanded with flowers and plants in a huge marquee at the Peltz $103m ocean-side family estate, with the bride’s parents – financier Nelson and his wife Claudia – footing the astronomical bill.
However many people took to Twitter to express their opinions on the excessive show of wealth, with a large proportion suggesting the money would have been better spent on helping those in genuine need.
Most cited the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine or the escalating cost of living in the United Kingdom and United States as both countries recover from the the COVID-19 pandemic.

Suggesting David should have donated to help those in need like fellow footballer Marcus Rashford, one person wrote on Twitter: ‘Stupid amounts of money spent on his wedding!! David Beckham should take a lead out of Rashford’s book by helping people who could live a better life.
‘Beckham is from the East End and should know better. Yes it’s his son’s wedding but 3million on it come on!!! That’s a joke.’
Someone else wrote: ‘Imagine a £3M wedding while Ukraine war continues.’

While someone else posted: ‘Beckham wedding rubbish, spending that amount of money while people starve, it’s shameful and it should be called out as disgusting.’

Others were impressed that they were spending money on local hospitality business after the coronavirus pandemic.
One person posted: ‘Yes, it’s a lot but it’s their money, unlike the £32m of OUT money for Meghan and her second husband’s wedding.’
Another person shared: ‘It’s being paid for by the bride’s family. It’s giving money and employment to caterers, waiters, bartenders, movers, tent rental companies, all the hard hit people in the hospitality industry trying to recover after COVID. The money is being spread around.’

Meanwhile, another person posted: ‘Many small businesses, caterers, florists, printers, music, equipment, clothes, hotels will have generated fantastic revenue after a really hard time.’
‘Who cares how the family spends their money? Think of all the vendors and employees who are benefitting from this,’ shared someone else.
One other person tweeted: ‘Are you suggesting they pretend to be poor and downgrade their wedding so poor people feel ok about it? I don’t particularly care for the Beckhams but I certainly wouldn’t pontificate about what they can can’t spend their money they earned on.’

Brooklyn and Nicola’s wedding started at 6pm sharp when Brooklyn, 23, was joined by his 27-year-old bride for the nuptials in one of the massive tented structures set up at the Peltz family estate.
The eldest son of Victoria and David Beckham could be seen waiting on his own on a stage garlanded with flowers and plants for 15 minutes before actress Nicola arrived for the extravaganza.
Meanwhile, it appeared there were six groomsmen who joined him on his right and six maids of honour who placed themselves to his left.

The aspiring chef chose brothers Romeo and Cruz, 17, as his best men for his much-publicised marriage to the daughter of billionaire financier Nelson Peltz, 79. His sister Harper, ten, was a bridesmaid.

The newlyweds then enjoyed a lingering six-second kiss in front of celebrity guests.
The ceremony ended at 6.30pm, although Jewish weddings on a Saturday – the Sabbath – strictly speaking should not be conducted until the sun has gone down. Sundown is at around 8pm in Palm Beach.
