Shannen Doherty thinks breast cancer made her a better actress

Shannen Doherty is crediting her breast cancer battle with improving her acting.

“Cancer helps me get in touch with everything within myself, so I have a lot more to draw on,” she explained to People. “Certainly cancer, in general, made me a much more aware of what really matters in life. You become aware that it’s all the little things that make the day an amazing day or make the year an amazing year. And all of that is something you can use in your acting.”

Doherty, who will next appear in Lifetime’s “No One Would Tell” remake, is in remission after undergoing chemotherapy, a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. The former “Charmed” star said she’s ready to work again.

“I don’t want cancer to be the only thing I’m focused on,” Doherty, 47, shared. “I’m an actor first and foremost. I love my craft.”

Doherty prepared for her reconstruction surgery while filming her Lifetime movie, which helped her gain more confidence.

“I think any woman or man, anytime that you go through something like reconstruction or prior to reconstruction, obviously you’re not feeling 100 percent about yourself,” she said. “But at the same time, I think you’re just so grateful to be alive.”
