Sex Doll Brothel Shut Down Because It Broke This Toronto By-Law!

Toronto law has come down hard on what would have been North America’s “first known” sex doll brothel.

Just over a week before Aura Dolls was set to open its doors on September 8, the business was shut down thanks to a decades-old bylaw that restricts sex retail shops in North York to industrial areas.

Following a large number of complaints about the brothel, Coun. John Filion met with city staff to determine if the business was legal in its chosen location in a North York plaza. City staff ruled that the shop fell under the “adult entertainment parlour” category and was therefore not allowed to operate out of the strip mall location.

Filion told City News the ruling is based on a motion he introduced about 20 years ago, and that owners were advised by city staff that “they would be charged” if the business opened. The property owner listened, and reportedly canceled Aura Dolls’ lease on the space.

Aura Dolls told press earlier this week that it doesn’t believe the company was breaking any laws, claiming it had a license from the city. City officials, however, said the company does not have any license with the city.

Filion added that the same plaza also houses two other illegal businesses — a pot dispensary and an illegal massage parlor — and he hopes those will be scrubbed from the building as well.

Party’s over.
