Sarah Ferguson opens up about relative who died ‘within minutes’ from allergic reaction

Sarah Ferguson is opening up about her father’s brother’s death from an allergic reaction when he was a child and how it impacted her family.

The Duchess of York, who recently became a patron of the Natasha Allergy Research Foundation, a charity promoting allergy research and safety, spoke about her family’s loss during an interview with ITV News Tuesday.

“My uncle, age 10, died of a crab sandwich at Brancaster Beach and my father was never the same after that,” she said. “And my grandmother never forgot John – he was called John.”

Ferguson says it wasn’t until she started working with the foundation that she realized the emotions her grandmother must have gone through.

“Can you imagine what my grandmother went through? In those days, forget it,” she added. “He was out on the beach with (his) nanny – he wasn’t even with my grandmother or father – he was on his own with (the) nanny and he died within minutes.”

The foundation was set up by the parents of Natasha Ednan-Laperouse, a 15-year-old who died from a similar situation: an allergic reaction to a sandwich that unbeknownst to her contained sesame seeds at in Heathrow Airport in 2016, according to the news outlet.
