Sam Smith Says His Breakup With '13RW' Star Brandon Flynn Is "Still Quite Raw"

It’s been nearly three months since Sam Smith’s split with Brandon Flynn (a.k.a. Justin Foley on Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why), and he just said that he still has a lot of feelings about the whole thing.

“I’m still trying to figure out what I took from that relationship and what it meant to me,” he said in an interview with The Times UK. “It’s still quite raw.”

The two first started dating last October, but they weren’t seen in public together until December. They confirmed their relationship on social in a picture where they’re both wearing unicorn hats, so they were obviously off to a great start.

They didn’t talk much about their relationship, but on Sam’s birthday Brandon did post this picture on Insta, writing in the caption “He’s an angel! He makes me so fucking happy and I hope everyone goes and shares all the birthday love.”

Happy 26, here’s to another amazing year of life!

Then, their relationship ended abruptly this past June. Sam deleted all the pictures of Brandon on his Instagram and hadn’t commented on it at all.

So even though he’s not suddenly opening up about what happened, he did say his ex is a “wonderful” person, adding “All my relationships have ended in a nice way, never nasty,” which we can assume applies to this relationship, too.

The one takeaway he did have is that he felt it was a positive thing for he and Brandon to be seen out together in public while openly in a relationship.

“Seeing gay relationships [in a public way] is important and refreshing,” he said.
