‘He is a very emotional guy’: Ruth Jones says her Gavin and Stacey co-star James Corden wears his heart on his sleeve after his reputation was tarnished following ‘abusive customer’ ban from iconic New York restaurant
Ruth Jones has described her Gavin and Stacey co-star James Corden as ‘a very emotional guy’ after he was banned from an iconic New York restaurant for being an ‘abusive customer’.
The 44-year-old TV star was branded a ‘tiny cretin of a man’ by restauranteur Keith McNally who temporarily banned the Late Late Show host from his restaurants because of his treatment of staff.
But reflecting on her time with the actor, who has built his career in the US since leaving the BBC Three show behind in 2010, Ruth Jones says that her friend and colleague just wears his heart on his sleeve.

Speaking to The Sun of James’s emotional reaction to wrapping up filming in 2019, when they did the Christmas Special return episode together, she said: ‘He is a very emotional guy. We had this hug and he was crying.
‘He mumbled something and I went, “What? I’m really sorry, I can’t understand what you’re saying”.
‘And he kept mumbling, and I said (loudly), “What?’ and he said (loudly), “I would be lost without you”.
Ruth added that she would be keen to work together at another opportunity, since the TV presenter is due to move back to the UK after announcing his departure from The Late Late Show next year.

‘I hope we do write together because it would be a shame not to,’ she told the publication.
‘It would be exciting to see what we come up with — it might be terrible.’
It was claimed by Keith McNally, who has a colourful history of booting out celebrities of his exclusive restaurants, that Corden also behaved similarly at his former restaurant, Cafe Luxembourg, on several occasions and left one server ‘shaken’.
He posted two separate examples of Corden’s ‘extremely nasty’ behavior at the French brasserie in New York’s Soho district on his Instagram account.
The 71-year-old started his post by calling the funnyman a ‘hugely gifted comedian’, before laying into his fellow Brit – who regularly tucks into meals with celebrities as part of a game on the show.

The shocking allegations come months after the ‘Into the Woods’ star announced he would no longer be hosting the late-night talk show in 2023.
The furious owner said that he ’86’d’ the star – which means you have been banned – and claims Corden found a hair in his main course when dining there in June, before demanding free drinks for the mistake.
Being 86’d is thought to have originated at Greenwich Village speakeasy bar, Chumley’s, on 86 Bedford Street, which had no address on the door – with guests ’86ing’ themselves from the premises if there was any trouble.
Corden apologised last Tuesday for being rude to two young servers after he was called out by the Balthazar owner.
However, in an interview with a New York Times reporter on Friday, Corden broke his silence and said: ‘I haven’t done anything wrong, on any level.’
Responding to the interview, McNally wrote in a new Instagram post: ‘I have no wish to kick a man when he’s down, but I believe the best way for James Corden to retrieve some of the vast respect the public had for him before this incident is to own up to it and apologize to the young servers he abused.’
He added: ‘Whatever Corden meant, his implication was clear: he didn’t do it.’
The Balthazar owner said if Corden ‘apologizes to the two servers he insulted, I’ll let him eat free at Balthazar for the next 10 years.’
Corden went on to say in The New York Times interview that speaking about the ordeal was ‘beneath’ the publication after the reporter appeared grateful Corden hadn’t called off the chat altogether.
