Roseanne Barr tweeted her thanks to John Goodman for saying she isn’t a racist.
“I thank John Goodman for speaking truth about me, despite facing certain peril from producers and network,” she wrote late Monday.
Barr’s former “Roseanne” co-star told the UK’s Times Sunday that he was shocked by her tweets about Valerie Jarrett, but insisted she wasn’t prejudiced.
“I was surprised. I’ll put it this way, I was surprised at the response, and that’s probably all I should say about it,” Goodman, 66, said. “I know, I know, for a fact that she’s not a racist.”
Barr tweeted that Jarrett, who was a former Barack Obama adviser, was a product of the Muslim Brotherhood and “Planet of the Apes.” She later blamed the offensive tweet on Ambien and then claimed that she “thought the b—h was white.”
Although the popular reboot of “Roseanne” was canceled, ABC later greenlit a spinoff titled “The Connors” for the fall. Barr will not be part of the spinoff.
“[Barr] had to sign a paper saying that she relinquished all her rights to the show so that we could go on,” Goodman said. “I sent her an email and thanked her for that. I did not hear anything back, but she was going through hell at the time. And she’s still going through hell.”
