Rebel Wilson granted exemption to skip Australia's 72-hour quarantine

Rebel Wilson is granted an exemption to skip Australia’s mandatory 72-hour quarantine after arriving in Sydney from LA for the AACTA awards – and heads straight to a park to exercise

Rebel Wilson was given special treatment upon her arrival in Australia from the US on Monday.  

The A-list actress, 41, who flew from Los Angeles to Sydney ahead of her appearance at Wednesday’s AACTA Awards, was granted permission by the New South Wales Government to skip mandatory 72-hour quarantine.   

Unlike the vast majority of international travellers, Rebel was able to visit a public park at 5pm on Monday – just hours after touching down in Sydney at 8.30am.

The star was pictured at the park spending time with family and friends including her sister Annachi.

Rebel’s manager told Daily Mail Australia on Wednesday: ‘Rebel received government permission from NSW Minister for Health and Medical Research Brad Hazzard.’ 

The manager was unable to provide the reason for why Rebel was granted the exemption, but did confirm the star ‘has been doing multiple PCR [nose and throat swab] tests’ since her arrival in Sydney.

The Pitch Perfect star was spotted running across the grass and performing aerobic exercises with a bottle of isotonic drink in her hand 

Rebel is scheduled to walk the red carpet at the AACTA Awards at Sydney Opera House on Wednesday evening, joining fellow A-listers including Russell Crowe and Taika Waititi. 

The actress was pictured reuniting with her sister Annachi at Sydney International Airport moments after disembarking her long-haul flight.

Rebel’s younger sibling helped her with numerous bags as they departed the airport. 

Under state public health requirements, fully-vaccinated travellers arriving from overseas must isolate at their home or accommodation for 72 hours after arriving in NSW.

Daily Mail Australia reached out to NSW Health for clarification as to why Rebel was granted the exemption. 

A NSW Health spokesperson responded: ‘NSW Health does not comment on individual cases.’
