Reason why Ferguson thought re-signing Pogba was recipe for trouble

Sir Alex Ferguson isn’t best pleased with what’s going on at Manchester United at the moment, following yet another defeat in the Premier League.

The Red Devils were thumped 3-1 by West Ham last time out, and are already nine points behind title rivals Manchester City and Liverpool after just seven games played.

Ferguson is worried the team he helped turn into one of the world’s greatest are in danger of being knocked off their perch.

And interestingly believes the decision to lure Paul Pogba back to the club for a record £89million fee, along with agent Mino Raiola, was a recipe for trouble. Here’s why.

Ferguson was in charge of Manchester United when Pogba left the club for Juventus.

At the time, Ferguson said: "It’s disappointing. I don’t think he showed us any respect at all, to be honest. I’m quite happy that if they [footballers] carry on that way, they’re probably better doing it away from us."

The Scot clearly felt that the youngster had shown the Old Trafford giants disrespect, but it wasn’t just the Frenchman who disappointed him.

In his book Leading, Ferguson wrote: "There are one or two football agents I simply do not like, and Mino Raiola, Paul Pogba’s agent is one of them.

"I distrusted him from the moment I met him. He became Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s agent while he was playing for Ajax, and eventually he would end up representing Pogba, who was only 18-years-old at the time.

"We had Paul under a three-year contract, and it had a one-year renewal option which we were eager to sign. But Raiola suddenly appeared on the scene and our first meeting was a fiasco.

"He and I were like oil and water. From then on, our goose was cooked because Raiola had been able to integrate himself with Paul and his family and the player signed with Juventus."
