Tennis champion Rafael Nadal, 36, and his wife Mery Perello, 34, have reportedly “welcomed a baby boy at Palma hospital”. Mery gave birth in a private clinic in Mallorca’s capital of Palma on Saturday morning, according to Spanish newspaper Diario de Mallorca.

A source told the publication: “Both the mum and her baby, born in the 37th week of her pregnancy, are doing well.

“The birth took place in a private clinic on the island where Mery had to remain under observation and rest completely in the last few weeks.”

Rafael and Mery married back in 2019, and their new arrival would make the tennis star a father for the first time.

Express.co.uk have contacted Rafael’s representatives for comment.

The news comes after the couple were alleged to be expecting a son by Hola! Magazine.

The publication made the claim following the announcement of Mery’s pregnancy back in June after weeks of speculation.

The Spanish tennis star confirmed the pregnancy news soon afterwards at a press conference in Mallorca, although there has been no official comment from Rafael or Mery about the latest piece of news.

The pair dated for 14 years before they tied the knot in October 2019 at a romantic ceremony at a fortress in Majorca.

Late last month, Rafael’s sister Maribel Nadal said the couple were doing “very well” as she left an event in Madrid attended by Spain’s Queen Letizia.

Her brother, who won both the Australian and French Open in 2022, told Hola! that he intended to have children back in 2018.

At the time he said: “Obviously I intend and want to form a family.

“I love children and I would like them to do what they want in life.”

There has been speculation that the name Sebastian might be chosen for the couple’s child after Rafael’s father and great-grandfather.

Former insurance worker Mery’s health has been the focus of Spanish press attention in recent weeks.

This focus intensified following the tennis ace’s recent withdrawal from the Laver Cup for “personal reasons” after he helped bid farewell to retiring star Roger Federer.

At the end of August, it was reported Mery had been admitted to a private clinic in the Majorcan capital Palma as she entered the 31st week of her pregnancy.

Reports at the time also said doctors had decided to monitor her as a precaution.

Mery was formerly an insurance worker but gave up her job to become project director for the Rafa Nadal Foundation, the charity her husband founded more than ten years ago.

Rafael is one of the most high-profile sportsmen on the planet and is currently ranked world number two in singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals.
