Meghan Markle is expecting her first child next spring, and her good friend Priyanka Chopra jokes that she wants to be next. The Quantico star, who became engaged to singer Nick Jonas over the summer, had the perfect response when she was asked about the royal baby news yesterday.
“I just have a few of my friends who are having babies right now and I’m like, ‘God I need to catch up!'” she quipped to E! News at the God’s Love We Deliver Golden Heart Awards in New York.
Chopra is the latest of Meghan’s loved ones to respond to the pregnancy news. Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, “is very happy about this lovely news and is looking forward to welcoming her first grandchild,” according to a statement from the Palace.
Prince Charles, Harry’s father, is also an excited grandparent. When asked on Tuesday if he had “toasted news of the royal baby,” he said, “Oh yes, absolutely,” and added, “Several times, at the moment!”
Although Meghan has moved on from being an actress to being the Duchess of Sussex, she and Chopra continue to support each other through important life events. Markle reportedly approves of her friend’s fiancé and hosted the couple with Prince Harry at their country home in the Cotswolds.
Chopra also showed her support when the Suits alum launched her first solo project as a royal: a charity cookbook benefiting survivors of the Grenfell fire.
“This is everything you always stood for. Women supporting women. Supporting communities. Bringing Togetherness. Here you do it again.. Keep making the world smile babe!” Priyanka wrote on Instagram.
