Princess Eugenie's Wedding Cake Is a Red Velvet Creation Inspired By Autumn

Princess Eugenie’s royal wedding to Jack Brooksbank is fast approaching, with the nuptials due to take place on Friday, October 12. And now, the palace just revealed exciting details about Princess Eugenie’s wedding cake.

Princess Eugenie has selected London-based cake designer Sophie Cabot to create her royal wedding cake. Cabot is making a red velvet and chocolate creation, “a traditional cake, with a modern feel,” according to the palace, which sounds a lot like Eugenie herself.

Much as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding cake included seasonal ingredients and was very much inspired by spring, Princess Eugenie’s cake will have an autumnal theme. Per the palace, Eugenie and Jack’s cake will “incorporate the rich colors of autumn,” and feature sugar work such as ivy all over. While Meghan and Harry’s cake featured lemon and elderflower, Princess Eugenie’s wedding cake ingredients draw on the season in which she’s getting married.

The palace reveals that it was Princess Eugenie’s dad, Prince Andrew, who brought Sophie Cabot’s wedding cake talents to his daughter’s attention. Per the palace, Cabot was involved in the Duke of York’s Pitch@Palace program, for which she provided biscuits.

Cabot’s background is certainly unusual, as she started out as a costume designer before moving into baking. According to the palace, this is exactly why she creates such delicate and delicious cakes: “Sophie’s artistic skills and flair come through in her creations, with a particular love for making sugar-flowers and using her hand-painting skills to create unique cakes.”

Cabot told the palace she’s deligehted to be involved in the royal wedding> “I am incredibly excited to be given this wonderful opportunity to create such a special and unique cake,” she said. “It has been lovely working with Princess Eugenie and Jack and I really hope they enjoy the cake on the day.”
