Pregnant Cher Lloyd reveals she broke down in tears after receiving a shock diagnosis: ‘I felt scared, confused and instantly blamed myself’
Pregnant Cher Lloyd has revealed she ‘burst into tears’ after being diagnosed with gestational diabetes.
The singer, 29, who is expecting her second child with husband Craig Monk, ‘got the call’ last week and felt ‘scared, confused and instantly blamed myself’.
Gestational diabetes is high blood sugar that can develop at any time during pregnancy but is more common in the second or third trimester, usually disappearing after the baby is born.
Taking to Instagram on Monday, the former X Factor star, who finished in fourth place on the talent show in 2010, opened up on her diagnosis and called for support.
Cher wrote: ‘I got the call last week to tell me I had gestational diabetes. I burst into tears. I felt scared, confused and instantly blamed myself.

‘I’ve spent most of my time researching gestational diabetes and trying to find recipes and ways to control it.
‘I’m still getting used to the changes and how this might affect the rest of my pregnancy.
‘I just wanted to reach out to any fellow gestational diabetes mamas out there sharing advise, stories and suggestions. Sending love.’
Cher announced on Instagram in April that she is expecting her second child with husband Craig.
She posted an adorable video showing her ultrasound scan, which lay beside a knitted white infant co-ord set and a grey hat, as she shared her baby news.
Alongside the sweet video, she penned: ‘Baby number 2, we can’t wait to meet you.’
Cher and her hairdresser husband Craig already share a daughter Delilah-Rae, four, who they welcomed back in May 2018.
In January 2018, Cher announced her first pregnancy, speaking about her excitement about becoming a parent with her husband Craig.

Posting a photo of her bump on Instagram, Cher told fans she had taken ‘some time away from the public eye to focus on what really matters and get back to what I truly love doing’.
She shared: ‘I’m so happy to announce that I now have a collection of amazing new songs (that I cannot wait to share with you all!), but also, there’s another reason why I’m writing to you today and that’s because I am beyond thrilled to inform you all that my husband Craig and I are also expecting our first child in May!!!’
Cher and her husband Craig surprised fans when they tied the knot in a romantic ceremony in November 2013.
She now looks worlds away from her time on The X Factor, where she was known for her voluminous hairstyles and dramatic eye make-up.
Despite a glittering start in the competition, things went downhill for Cher when her alleged behind-the-scenes tantrums caused her to be labelled as Britain’s most ‘hated teen’, with judge Louis Walsh even branding her ‘too big for her boots’.
Cher ended coming in fourth place on the show, and following her stint on X Factor, she released her first single Swagger Jagger, followed by her debut album Sticks and Stones.
After becoming one of the most promising stars in the industry, it was announced in 2013 that Cher had parted ways with Syco Records due to creative differences with boss Simon Cowell.
In the same year, she secretly married Craig after less than a year of dating and they soon headed to the USA to start a new life. They made their way back to the UK a few years later and in May 2018 they welcomed a daughter.
Looking back on her ‘diva’ persona during her time on the show, Cher told Fabulous magazine back in 2012: ‘I was a beast! Everyone hated me.
‘I was young and foolish. Part of me was trying to show I was strong enough to do it, and then I think it all got too much for me.
‘I was angry with the way I was being edited and because of that I turned into this horrible person, with a terrible attitude.’

What is gestational diabetes?
Gestational diabetes is high blood sugar (glucose) that develops during pregnancy and usually disappears after giving birth.
It can happen at any stage of pregnancy, but is more common in the second or third trimester.
It happens when your body cannot produce enough insulin – a hormone that helps control blood sugar levels – to meet your extra needs in pregnancy.
Gestational diabetes can cause problems for you and your baby during pregnancy and after birth. But the risks can be reduced if the condition is detected early and well managed.
