Opinion: Piers Morgan has declared that the coronavirus pandemic has put celebrities ‘firmly back in their box’

In an interview with The Sun’s TV mag, the outspoken presenter didn’t hold back on what he thought about celebrities amid the difficult times facing the world.

Not mincing his words, he said: ‘Celebrities have been put back in their box. The real stars are the health workers. They’re the people that we need to value highest.’

Meanwhile, Piers went on to make a comment about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, calling them ‘irrelevant.’

The journalist and broadcaster, who has never been shy in sharing his opinions on the couple, said: ‘I don’t really care about them anymore…

Speaking out: Piers also took a swipe at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, branding the couple ‘utterly irrelevant’

‘They seem so utterly irrelevant, stuck in their rented Hollywood mansion, desperately trying to get attention. Doing stupid lawsuits and whining about the media. No one cares.’

Not done there, Piers then rounded on his former pal Lord Alan Sugar, declaring their friendship was ‘done’.

Admitting that he ‘doesn’t want to talk about’ the Apprentice star, Piers said the termination of their friendship was ‘sad’.

Piers has in the past called out as celebrities amid the COVID-19 crisis, recently telling singer Sam Smith to ‘get a grip’ after they shared their ‘stages of a quarantine meltdown’ while in self-isolation.

Rant: The Good Morning Britain host, 55, suggested that famous faces have become unimportant amid the ongoing crisis as he said that health workers are the ‘real heroes’

The presenter blasted the singer, 27, for their ‘celebrity attention-seeking b******t’ during the coronavirus crisis, and told them to ‘get a grip’.

Taking to Twitter in March to share his reaction to Sam’s Instagram snaps, Piers didn’t mince his words as he said: ‘FFS. I can’t take any more of this celebrity attention-seeking b******t.

‘Get a grip, the lot of you. This is a war, not an Instagram story op,’ Piers concluded in the scathing statement.

Meanwhile, Piers confirmed that he’s signed a new contract that will see him remain on Good Morning Britain until 2021.

Having his say: ‘Celebrities have been put firmly back in their box. The real stars are the health workers. They’re the people that we need to value highest’

Not amused: Piers has in the past called out as celebrities amid the COVID-19 crisis, recently telling singer Sam Smith to ‘get a grip’ after they shared their ‘stages of a quarantine meltdown’ while in self-isolation

The journalist insisted that he ‘doesn’t care’ about complaints over his no-nonsense interview technique and declared: ‘If my style upsets people, don’t watch!’

It comes amid Ofcom complaints from 4000 viewers over his hard-hitting interviews and hard line of questioning to government ministers, with Piers remaining defiant that he was ‘just doing my job’, to which he won mass support from many.

Despite some viewers taking offence over his presenting style, media regulator Ofcom cleared him of all complaints, with Piers adding that only cares about Ofcom grievances if he felt that he was genuinely ‘at fault.’

He went on to admit that his ‘frustration’ only comes out on the show when government ministers failed to answer ‘basic questions.’
