Piers Morgan questions Prince Harry’s appearance at King’s Coronation

Piers Morgan took to Twitter almost as soon as the news broke that Prince Harry would be present at King Charles’s Coronation – but without wife Meghan Markle by his side.

An official statement released today, said: “Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that The Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation Service at Westminster Abbey on May 6th.”

However, a dubious Piers shot back: “I’d love to know exactly who at Buckingham Palace is ‘pleased’ he’s attending…”

There has been speculation on whether it will still be possible for Prince Harry to build bridges with his family after the explosive revelations he made in his memoir, Spare.

Meanwhile, fans have queried the reason for Meghan’s absence, with some quizzing whether it relates to the fallout from the book.

Others have suggested that she will be celebrating the fourth birthday of her son Archie, which falls on exactly the same day as the Coronation.

Meanwhile, one fan expressed her disappointment that neither Harry’s children nor his wife would be there to mark this moment in history.

Overall, reactions to Piers’ tweet were mixed, with @WayneMarriott8 writing: “Please tell me he’s coming alone… one is bad enough but both would be horrendous!”

@royalnewss suggested: “They are ‘pleased to confirm’, not ‘pleased he’s attending’.”

@johnkingderry1 chimed in: “It’s called being diplomatic Piers. What did you want the PR team at the palace to say? ‘We can confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the coronation, oh well never mind eh, at least he can sit next to Andrew and listen to his moaning during the ceremony.'”

However, @CanonTakeMeAway reasoned: “I think the King is pleased and would be heartbroken if his son didn’t attend. Even if your child does something you disagree with you still love them. That just doesn’t go away.”

@Dave43Law also defended the Sussexes, writing: “Sure he is pleased his son is coming to be part of the biggest day of his life. You would criticise if he had not come. You would criticise if Meghan had come. Now you portray him not being wanted.”

@bethanyusher added: “Any decent dad would look for any chance to reconcile with their boy.”

“Are you secretly meeting with the Sussexes for lunch and hanging out in LA?!?” quizzed @RobertFingleton, perhaps after seeing Piers’ tweet this afternoon stating he was in Hollywood.

However, he shot back: “Not… *checks empty schedule*…. in my current plans.”
