PewDiePie 'refuses to accept' cultural appropriation as a concept

PewDiePie has revealed he ‘refuses to accept’ the concept of cultural appropriation in his latest video.

The 30-year-old, who was recently crowned the most-watched YouTuber of 2019, reacted to some posts meant to make viewers face-palm.

One was a Reddit post reading: ‘If you are white, you can’t speak Spanish,’ with another responding: ‘Are you familiar with the entire country of Spain?’

‘Cultural appropriation is one of the concepts I refuse to accept ever to be a thing,’ the star – real name Felix Kjellberg – said.

‘We should have just thrown it out straight away. What makes the world beautiful is the fact that we can – not steal from cultures, but appreciate other cultures. What’s the problem? We’re one nation.’

Continuing, he said: ‘”Oh but historically, whites would take from…” Yeah but that’s not the case 99.9% of the time. Okay?’

Cultural appropriation has been described as when a typically more dominant group in society inappropriately adopts the customs, practices, or ideas of another group.

Felix also spoke out about religion in the video, saying in response to another post: ‘I don’t know what I would consider myself religiously but, regardless, the whole atheist calling out religious people – it’s so f***ing cringe.

‘”Oh yeah? Well if there’s no God then-“‘ he mocked, before urging: ‘Take your fedora and eat it. I don’t want to hear it.’

Well, that’s that then.

Felix was recently crowned the most-watched and most-subscribed YouTuber of 2019 after his appearance in YouTube Rewind.

He achieved a whopping four billion views over the year, gaining more than 22 million subscribers.

Not only that, but his wedding video with Marzia is also the second most-liked video of the year with 4.7 million likes.
