Patricia Arquette Accidentally Hit Joey King with Her Golden Globe, and It Left a Mark

Joey King didn’t go home with a Golden Globe trophy last night, but she did get hit in the head with one—Patricia Arquette’s, no less—which is pretty damn close. The actress, who starred as Gypsy Blanchard in Hulu’s The Act, revealed on Twitter this afternoon that the bump left a bruise smack in the middle of her forehead.

“Patricia Arquette accidentally hit me in the head with her Golden Globe,” King tweeted. “That sentence will give me bragging rights for the rest of my life.” She also shared two photos of the mark left on her face, one with all her makeup still on and one presumably from the morning after.

Writer Alyse Whitney pointed out the exact moment King hit her head: She and Arquette were dancing in an elevator photo booth during an after-party when King bowed her head down, accidentally onto Arquette’s trophy.

Arquette, who played Gypsy’s mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, in The Act, claimed the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television. Despite the hilarity that ensued with King after the ceremony, she took on a serious tone in her acceptance speech, when she said the United States is “on the brink of war,” the president is “tweeting out a threat of 52 bombs including cultural sites,” and Australia is “on fire.” She also urged viewers to vote in the 2020 election.
