Oprah Winfrey Fully Aware of Backlash She Will Face Post-‘After Neverland’ Interview

AceShowbizOprah Winfrey knows she’s “going to get it” for interviewing two men who have accused Michael Jackson of sexual abuse.

The media mogul, 65, is set to sit down with Wade Robson and James Safechuck, who feature in new documentary “Leaving Neverland“, for a special post-show interview.

According to Variety, Oprah told the audience during the taping of the TV special – called “After Neverland” – that she was fully aware of the backlash she would receive from Jackson’s family, and his millions of fans.

“I’m gonna get it,” she said.

However, the talk show host argued that the issue of sexual abuse is too important to remain silent, despite how much it may anger the loved ones of the late “Thriller” hitmaker.

“This movie transcends Michael Jackson,” she told the crowd, which included more than 100 abuse survivors. “It allows us to see societal corruption.”

Variety also reported that Oprah made it clear that she believed accusers Wade and James, who joined her on stage.

The director of “Leaving Neverland”, Dan Reed, was also present at the taping at the New York Times Center, which will air after the documentary on HBO on 4 March.

“Beware of people who just want to be around your children,” Oprah said during the taping.

“Leaving Neverland” has been met with severe criticism from the Jackson family and the late singer’s estate, which dubbed the film a “lurid production.”

“This so-called ‘documentary’ is just another rehash of dated and discredited allegations,” their statement to Entertainment Tonight read. “It’s baffling why any credible filmmaker would involve himself with this project.”

The estate also filed a $100 million (£75.7 million) lawsuit against HBO last month (February 2019).
