BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty, 45, admitted that sometimes her on-air blunders have consequences. After appearing on the flagship breakfast show alongside Dan Walker, 43, last week, she noted that she gets “grief” for her mistakes after Dan addressed Health Secretary Matt Hancock’s, 41, huge error when he called football player Marcus Rashford, Daniel.

The amount of grief – I’m sure you do as well, I do – for getting names wrong

The Manchester United player had called for the government to to designate more money for free school meals for school children.

He wrote to MPs about extending the free school meals voucher scheme outside term time, which would allow parents to still claim food vouchers for an estimated 1.3 million children in England during the summer holidays.

It was previously in doubt, but the nation cheered when the government made a U-turn on their decision.

The voucher scheme in England works out at around £15 a week per child and will cost an estimated £120million to extend it over the summer.

And while Mr Hancock praised the sportsman for his role in the initiative, he accidentally got his name wrong.

The politician was left red-faced after using the name “Daniel” in an earlier televised interview but Naga recognised the mistake could happen to anybody.

After his interview, Naga glanced over at Dan, who was still giggling at the error that went viral.

With a huge smile on her face, she confessed: “The amount of grief – I’m sure you do as well, I do – for getting names wrong,” she laughed.

“There’s getting names wrong, and I don’t know him personally, but he will be slapping himself on the head getting that name wrong!”

Dan agreed: “It happens,” as she continued: “All the time!

“And you kick yourself but in that position, it’s for all the world to see.”

The health secretary made the giant blunder on Sky News, when he explained the U-turn came after “Daniel Rashford” had a one-to-one conversation with the Prime Minister over the phone.

Dan took the opportunity to touch on the epic blunder that had the whole nation talking, saying: “Before I let you go, I know your job is a difficult one to come on this morning and to do all these live interviews.

“I’m sure you’re aware already Daniel Rashford is trending on social media because you called Marcus…” Dan was interrupted by laughter from the minister.

“Do you want to try and explain yourself because I think you’re probably going to have to talk about this at some stage,” the host giggled.

Mr Hancock replied: “I can’t. Of course, I know he’s called Marcus Rashford.

“I think I said that once,” he continued, before admitting he had “no idea” why he called Marcus by the name Daniel.

“I completely misspoke,” he added, to which Dan asked: “Was that one of those moments you slap yourself on the head?”

“Too early in the morning,” the government minister joked before signing off.

As Naga said, it happens to the best of us!
