Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher show stunning sustainable LA farmhouse

Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher show off stunning sustainable LA farmhouse as they fleshed out vision for five-year project on Pinterest boards : ‘We wanted a home, not an estate’

They dated, became engaged, married, and welcomed two children in a four year span from 2012 to 2016.

But Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher spent even more time putting together their dream home than they did hitting all those life milestones.

The 37-year-old actress and 43-year-old actor revealed in a cover story for Architectural Digest that they took five years to complete the project of their six-acre sustainable farmhouse property in Los Angeles.

Many would be surprised to know that the two A-listers started out the huge undertaking like many DIYers by fleshing out their visions on independent Pinterest boards.

‘This was either going to make us or break us’: Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher revealed in a cover story for Architectural Digest that they took five years to complete the project of their six-acre sustainable farmhouse property in Los Angeles

Kunis explained: ‘Building a house from the ground up is no small thing. This was either going to make us or break us.’

They were happy to find out that not only did their design aesthetic align, they also both loved the work of architect Howard Backen of the Backen & Gillam Architects firm.

Kutcher said: ‘When we looked at each other’s boards, 90 percent of the images we selected were the same, and most of the houses we pinned were designed by Howard.’

The sprawling property features a main farmstyle house connected to a guesthouse/entertainment barn in addition to a barbeque pavilion.

Of the choices made in regards to the residence, the Black Swan actress said: ‘We wanted a home, not an estate.’

Kutcher added: ‘We wanted the house to look like an old barn, something that had been here for decades, that was then converted into a house. But it also had to feel modern and relevant.’

The power couple also managed to get interior designer Vicky Charles of Charles & Co. who joined the project just after exiting her position as the global head of design for Soho House according to Architectural Digest.

Kunis said: ‘We were obsessed with Soho Farmhouse and other projects Vicky spearheaded. We loved the way she mixed fabrics, patterns, textures—really her whole aesthetic.’

As the inside of the home screams contemporary farmhouse with rugged materials with a more refined look and aesthetic, the group came up with a direction as Mila was getting ready to become a mother for the first time.

Charles said: ‘Mila was pregnant with their first child when we began this journey. We spent months looking at materials and colors to find the right visual language. Our conversations were not just about the land and the architecture but also about the future of their family.

‘Over time, the design moved away from a traditional farmhouse aesthetic to something more contemporary. Wrought-iron chandeliers and big chesterfields were the wrong clothes for this body.’

Perhaps the most memorable part of the home is an extravagant 10-foot-long crystal chandelier which is featured on the cover of the issue that is a bit of a departure from the rural feel of the rest of the home.

Loved up: The Family Guy voice actress and Kutcher were first romantically linked in April of 2012, and they tied the knot three years later, as they are seen together in January 2019

It was obviously a concerted effort as Kunis explained: ‘We thought it would be funny to have this incredibly opulent thing hanging in a barn. It kind of takes the piss out of the property.’
