Mick Jagger’s exes play happy families in the park

Look Away Mick! As Jagger’s exes play happy families in the park – one of them is determined to tame him

A humid day in Central Park, New York, at the end of summer and a rather extraordinary scene is unfolding.

Two women are sitting on a bench with their children. Although 17 years separate them, they could be sisters. Both have the same striking features, glossy dark hair and long, slim limbs.

They smile and chat as they take turns to push the younger woman’s toddler on the swings, while the elder woman’s teenage son looks at his phone and plays football.

Only on second glance does the significance of this scene hit home. They are Luciana Gimenez Morad and Melanie Hamrick — two of Mick Jagger’s conquests — and they are hanging out with their sons by him.

Melanie is the mother of Mick’s youngest child, Deveraux, who was born in December 2016, while Luciana’s son Lucas was born in 1999 as a result of an affair during Mick’s 22-year relationship with ex-wife Jerry Hall.

You wouldn’t imagine that Melanie, a 31-year-old professional ballerina, would have all that much in common with exuberant Brazilian sexpot ex-model Luciana. However, the two women have formed an alliance.

Some suggest that, as Melanie’s romance with Mick is now said to be on the wane (he’s already said to have moved on to 22-year-old film producer Noor Alfallah), she is clinging on to being part of the Jagger tribe.

Others suggest that Luciana is able to give a masterclass in surviving rejections by the faithless old rogue, with dignity.

‘They are a pair of flings, they have that much in common,’ says a friend of Mick. Neighbours of Melanie’s confirm that the two ladies are regular visitors to Central Park.

One said: ‘I’ve seen them in the park together before now. They were sitting on a bench chatting over by the reservoir.

Luciana, 48, is now single again, after her marriage to her Brazilian TV millionaire broke up. She has been spending time in New York with her son, Lucas, who is about to start studying film and photography at college in the city.

The family live in a luxurious, £10 million house in Manhattan, with four bedrooms and a housekeeper — funded not by Mick, but by Luciana’s estranged husband.

And now Lucas’s half brother Deveraux, known as Dev, is being raised around 20 minutes away from Lucas in a four-bedroom apartment in Central Park West.

This was bought for Melanie for £5 million by Mick Jagger, without quibble, after she fell pregnant. At that point they had been dating on and off for four years.

One neighbour in Melanie’s apartment block said: ‘I asked what attracted her to the building when she moved in, and she said the schools were good.

‘Her son was just a babe in arms then but she was already looking towards his future.

‘I had no idea who she was. We don’t get that many young people. Most of us have lived here forever and we’re getting on. It’s good to have new blood in the building.’ The neighbour added: ‘Melanie is not especially friendly, a bit haughty, like she can’t be doing with the likes of us.

‘But if Mick Jagger’s her boyfriend, that’s understandable.’

Yes, the ‘boyfriend’ question. Melanie would love nothing more than for Mick to publicly admit that he is her ‘boyfriend’, but it seems that Mick, now, 75, is not to be rushed into anything.

One friend of his notes: ‘Mick has given her a lot of money, she is set for life. He didn’t fight her over it like Luciana.’

Yet despite Mick’s financial commitment to Melanie, he is still refusing to make an emotional one to her. Indeed, according to one report, Mick has been dallying with Noor in London.

He met Noor at a party in 2015, when he and Melanie were an item, and she appears to have attended Rolling Stones concerts through 2016 and 2017, spending three nights in Paris with him last October just after Melanie and Dev had paid a visit.

This juggling makes Melanie ‘furiously jealous’. Mick’s friends are at pains to play down Noor’s part in his life because they know that Melanie ‘hits the roof’ over other women.

One told me: ‘Things with Melanie have been strained. He is with Noor at the moment, and has been spending time with her in London. It’s always been complicated with Melanie.

‘They were tying themselves in knots over how to describe the relationship when she got pregnant.

‘She is very, very pushy and I don’t think anyone realised how pushy she was going to be.

‘She contacts him all the time telling him he needs to be in New York to see her and Dev.’

The pal continues: ‘From what I hear he has found her a pain in the neck. I think he has been finding her hard to handle at times.

‘To Mick, she’s not a girlfriend, because he just doesn’t believe in girlfriends, but as far as she is concerned she wants to be his No 1 girl.’

She has referred to him in an interview as her ‘boyfriend’ and said: ‘In the technical sense I am not married to the father of my child, but I have a great, wonderful relationship with him.’

How ‘great’ and ‘wonderful’? A pal of Mick’s explains: ‘Mick and Melanie see each other and they have a family together. They spend time together when they can. It’s an ongoing connection.’

The connection, though, leaves Mick free to see whoever he pleases, whenever he pleases, and excuses him from any expectation that he will marry or, become a one-woman man.

A by-product of his unconventional family life, though, is the fact that Melanie found a friend among his ex-loves.

I’m told that Melanie and Luciana have been thrown together a good deal over the past 12 months as Luciana’s marriage has ended and as Mick has wanted to see more of Lucas. The two women were both on holiday with Mick over Easter in Mustique, where he has a villa, and both of them spent extended periods travelling with the Rolling Stones over the summer as the band toured Europe.

They shared private jet trips, and went sightseeing together during down time between gigs. Lucas, who turned 19 in May, was treated to a trip to Moscow to watch the World Cup.

One friend of Jagger’s suggests: ‘Both of them really appreciate what a good dad he is, but they’ve both also experienced how cold he can be in a relationship.’

With eight children by five different women — some of whom are friends and some far from it — the question of who gets on with whom in Mick Jagger’s sprawling family can be confusing.

As bandmate Keith Richards told the Wall Street Journal this spring: ‘Mick’s a randy old b******. You can’t be a father at that age. Those poor kids!’ He later apologised for the outburst and Mick is by all accounts a terrific father to his huge brood — engaged, respectful, kind.

Luciana said only last year: ‘During my pregnancy, I imagined a future as a single mother. I was wrong, Mick was always present.’

But as a romantic partner his shortcomings hardly need to be laboured.

Many of his women have cause to cordially detest each other. Marsha Hunt and Bianca Jagger were rivals for his attention, and Bianca divorced him on the grounds of his adultery with Jerry Hall.

All three, though, get on very well now and both Marsha and Bianca attended Jerry’s wedding to media mogul Rupert Murdoch.

What changed those relationships was Jerry, who was a brilliant stepmother to Marsha’s daughter, Karis, and Bianca’s daughter, Jade. Indeed Jerry remains close to all of Mick’s women and children — with the exception of Luciana and Lucas. Luciana apparently has tried to make it up to Jerry — she said in an interview that she had written Jerry a letter to apologise.

By contrast, Luciana has never been a threat to Melanie, who was happy to have a visit from the Brazilian after she gave birth to baby Deveraux. And from there, a sisterly relationship has grown.

The two most recent ‘baby mothers’ have been thrown together because Mick likes to see all his children, often, and likes them to come on tour and on holiday with him as much as possible. Now that they find themselves in the same city, it seems that their relationship has blossomed

Perhaps Melanie would do well to look to Luciana for advice on how best to move on from Mick, on an emotional level at least.

For while Luciana was ‘hurt’ when her nine-month romance with Mick came to a close and she had to put up with a DNA test when she announced her pregnancy, she is now utterly philosophical about it all. And Luciana and Mick have managed to co-parent without any conflict.

She says: ‘Mick and I are still best friends, we really are. He is still very attractive, but don’t get me wrong, not in a sexual way.’

Mick used to Skype to check on Lucas’s homework, and in the early years would sing him lullabies down the phone.

Last year he flew into Sao Paolo so that he could wish his son a happy 18th birthday, while on Mick’s birthday, Luciana wrote: ‘Happy birthday dear friend, dear Daddy! We love u.’

Will Melanie adopt a more platonic stance? Those who know her steely character say it’s unlikely. Although now 31 and at a crossroads in her dancing career, Melanie is not content to sit in the background — in either her personal or professional life. ‘I still have the competitiveness,’ she says.

‘I have been training since I was five,’ she told one interviewer with grim pride. She added: ‘I never took a day off.’

One friend of Mick’s says Melanie has been ‘very hard to handle’ of late.

Sympathy for the old devil? It seems Luciana has a way to go to convince Melanie of that.
