‘I have to sing!’ Tearful Meghan Trainor struggles to hold back emotions when asked about son Riley just moments before Today show performance

Meghan Trainor was forced to compose herself on Friday as she struggled to hold back tears ahead of her performance on the Today show in New York City.

The 28-year-old was promoting her new album Takin’ It Back when hosts Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb asked the singer about her one-year-old son Riley, triggering an emotional response.

‘I have to sing!’ Meghan said as almost began to cry, looking at her adorable child who could be seen in the audience with her husband Daryl Sabara.

Dressed in a hot pink bodysuit and with her blonde hair in pigtails, it appeared as though the Grammy winner was doing her best to switch from mommy mode to pop star diva. 

‘Everything is like much more important,’ Meghan told Hoda, 58, when she was asked how motherhood had changed things. 

‘Every song means more. I think of him, like, when he’s ten years old he’s gonna hear these songs and I want him to be proud.’ 

The star later revealed on the show that she has lost 60 pounds since the birth of her son. 

She spoke about about wanting to live a healthy lifestyle so that she can stay with her son ‘forever.’

The hitmaker married Sabara – a former child star most famous for playing Juni Cortez in the Spy Kids film series – in 2018 after meeting him at a house party in 2014.

The trigger: The Dear Future Husband songstress suddenly became overwhelmed with emotion as the cameras panned to her husband Daryl Sabara, 30, who was holding their adorable one-year-old son Riley

Trainor revealed during her interview that she and Sabara reunited with his Spy Kids costar Alexa PenaVega, 35, earlier this week. 

‘Dude, we married the Spy Kids,’ is what Alexa PenaVega’s husband Carlos PenaVega, 33, allegedly told Meghan when the two couples got together over lunch in New York City. 

The Like I’m Gonna Lose You singer’s number one priority certainly seems to be family as she embraces being a mother. She described her new life as simply a ‘dream.’ 

‘It’s the greatest thing in the whole world,’ said Meghan, speaking about the combination of motherhood and pop superstardom. 

The All About That Bass singer said that her young son has been a major influence on her latest album and went on to voice support for her fellow mothers around the world: ‘There’s a special song on there called Superwoman for all my mamas. All my workin’ mamas too.’

‘It’s my whole heart,’ Meghan said of her fourth album, which dropped on Friday. The Lips Are Movin’ singer performed a few of her new songs for the Today show’s audience and she was clearly moved by the size of the crowd. 

‘It’s been so many years and they’re still here,’ she said of her devoted fanbase. But Meghan’s main source of support are the tight-knit family members who have been with her every step of the way.  

‘My uncle is my landscaper, my auntie is my chef and I keep my family close.’ The star shared that she even brought her family with her on her honeymoon, rechristening the family affair as her ‘familymoon.’ 

‘I’m just going to be the best version of myself for my kid,’ said the star. ‘He actually is the reason why I’ve just taken on every challenge I can and tried to write the best album I can.’

‘It feels good,’ Meghan said of her new album’s release. ‘It’s a birth.’

Moving on from her emotional appearance on Today, Meghan rocked a neon baby blue look as she visited SiriusXM Studios to continue promoting her new album. 

With her pigtails turned into buns, the Made You Look singer changed into a neon baby blue sweatshirt and matching fringed skirt for the radio appearance. 

She kept her bedazzled hot pink eyeliner, but swapped her white diamond earrings in favor of playful blue gems. 

The pop star just dropped the extravagant music video for her new self-love anthem Made You Look, posting a clip of it to Instagram on Friday amid her publicity blitz. 

Meghan told her followers in the caption to drop a lollipop emoji if she made them look and the lollipops will no doubt be in abundance as her new music climbs the charts.
