Trash talk: Rapper Machine Gun Kelly has described his new movie – where he met girlfriend Megan Fox – as ‘garbage’ if it got awful reviews this week

No shows: Both Fox, 35, and Baker, 31, skipped the premiere for the film this week (Pictured at the 2021 iHeartRadio Music Awards in May this year)

However, the film has since been savaged by film critics which could be another reason why the real-life couple decided not to attend, despite having met and fallen in love onset while filming it in May last year.

Fox and the rapper famously met onset of Midnight in the Switchgrass in March last year and while it made for a passionate romance, the experience has resulted in a poorly reviewed film.

The thriller – about two FBI agents investigating a string of murders that appear to be related – was blasted by critics on Thursday, resulting in a dismal 17% score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.

‘The atmosphere is thoroughly sleazy without being distinctive, and everything about the movie – the emotionless line readings, the half-baked back stories – exudes a terse functionality,’ the review adds.

Mark Hanson of Slant Magazine gave the film zero stars, saying: ‘Randall Emmett’s directorial debut is virtually indistinguishable from the scores of cheap VOD action thrillers that he’s produced to date.’

The Hollywood Reporter called it an ‘poorly plotted and agonizingly acted directorial debut’ that ‘doesn’t come close to fulfilling even the lowest of expectations.’

However, the same review notes that one of the most surprisingly good parts is Machine Gun Kelly, who is ‘one of the most consistent and invested’ in the cast.

‘With such a star-powered lineup, one could reasonably expect some juicy acting, but some of the performances have a phoned-in quality – as if the actors didn’t want to be there,’ the review added.

Film writer Tessa Smith, although giving the film a one star review, hailed Fox, saying: ‘Megan Fox is the standout performance over Bruce Willis, which was a complete shock, but even that cannot save this movie.’
