Mayim Bialik reveals Neil Patrick Harris STOPPED TALKING to her

Mayim Bialik reveals Neil Patrick Harris STOPPED TALKING to her after a bizarre incident following a performance of Rent

Mayim Bialik reveals that her extreme dislike of musicals essentially hampered her friendship with Neil Patrick Harris, many years ago.

Bialik, 45, and Harris, 48, were both child stars and friends as teenagers, when Harris starred in a touring production of Rent in the 1990s.

She revealed on The Late Late Show with James Corden on Wednesday night that her behavior when she went to see Harris caused him to not talk to her for several years, and that she has never liked musicals… at all.

Corden was quite surprised to find out that Bialik is not a fan of musicals, asking when the last time she saw a musical was, as Bialik said she has a ‘very bad story.’

‘I went to see Rent. I was friends with Neil Patrick Harris… this is a terrible story. I went to see Rent… I was a teenager and I did not… it wasn’t my thing,’ Bialik explained.

‘But when your friend is in the play… and then everyone is clapping at the end and you say to your boyfriend next to you, “I don’t want to stand for this,” and you look up and Neil Patrick Harris is looking right at you, it’s a bad day,’ Bialik explained.

Not my thing: ‘I went to see Rent. I was friends with Neil Patrick Harris… this is a terrible story. I went to see Rent… I was a teenager and I did not… it wasn’t my thing,’ Bialik explained

She explained they were teenagers and it was ‘right after he did Doogie Howser,’ adding, ‘Neil was fantastic, he’s amazing, but I just wasn’t into the “Let’s give a standing ovation,” it wasn’t my thing, but that’s not a thing you say out loud, because Neil was reading my lips.’

Bialik said that she went to see him back stage, adding, ‘we were friends at the time… at the time… and he said, I kid you not, “Why did you say you weren’t gonna stand up?”‘

She added she did ‘not have a good answer’ to that question, adding it was, ‘terrible’ and, ‘we didn’t speak for a long time.’

‘He says that he forgave me and he sent flowers when he heard that I’m still carrying this… I mean, I feel terrible. It just wasn’t my thing,’ Bialik said.

Host James Corden was ‘shocked to the core’ when he found out that Bialik doesn’t like musicals, which Bialik responded, ‘I think there’s something for everyone.’

‘I think people expect that since I’ve worked with Bette Midler and because I’m me that I’m supposed to love musicals. No. It’s not my thing,’ she confirmed.

When Corden asked why she doesn’t like musicals, she said, ‘Why do I have to like them?’

‘They’re ridiculous. People are talking and then they’re singing? It’s so weird,’ which Corden seemed to take offense to, asking if her show The Big Bang Theory was, ‘really realistic.’

‘Here’s the thing. If you want to sing, just sing. Go in a car with James Corden, cut an album, that’s music. If you want to act and do a thing, you have a play. I don’t want them together. You just gotta keep it separated,’ Bialik said.

After hearing about Bialik’s segment on The Late Late Show, Harris took to Twitter to confirm that they are in fact still friends.

‘Mayim Bialik and I have been friends for over 30 years. Her aversion to musical theater isn’t going to change that…’  Harris said.

Bialik recently took over as the host of Jeopardy, following the departure of Mike Richards.
