Matt Lucas reveals he was ‘thin-shamed’ by a stranger at a football match after dramatic weight loss

Matt Lucas has revealed he was ‘thin-shamed’ as he watched Arsenal take on Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium in London on Saturday.

The 47-year-old comedian took to Twitter to share the unusual encounter, after fans previously praised his drastic weight loss journey.

It was only last year that he claimed to have ‘put on a lot of weight’ in lockdown during an appearance on Lorraine, adding: ‘I’ve still got a bit of a tum.’

Yet after looking noticeably slimmer in recent months, Matt’s weight loss has clearly picked up attention as he shared the awkward experience with his social media followers.

He penned: ‘Shout out to the lady who stopped me at football today to ask me why i’ve lost weight and to inform me I look a lot older.

‘For the first time in my life, I think i’ve just been thin-shamed,’ he added.

Fans were quick to jump to Matt’s defence and left a thread of heart-warming replies, including one which read: ‘You look amazing, and most importantly, happy,’

Another wrote: ‘You actually look younger and very well, I think you look fantastic’

One reassured Matt and said: ‘I had the same when I lose weight, don’t lose any more you’ll be too thin. You can’t win, people always want to point the obvious out then make it seem like you’ve done wrong. I think you look great and I just don’t get this whole fat and thin shaming, let people be themselves’

Back in May last year, Matt displayed his svelte new frame when he appeared on Lorraine, after admitting to piling on the pounds during lockdown.

He confessed to impressed host Lorraine Kelly, 61, that he’s ‘still got a bit of a tum’ after deciding it was time to shed weight.

As Lorraine remarked on his physique, Matt said: ‘I lost some weight, I needed to take the edge of, because I put on a lot of weight in lockdown. I’ve still got a bit of a tum.’

And as Matt remarked that he wasn’t yet a ‘Skinny Minnie’, Lorraine told the Little Britain star that he would look ‘daft’ if his weight dipped too much.

In April 2020, Matt admitted that he was keen to ‘get fitter’ during his time in quarantine, after feeling he had ‘put on a little bit of weight’.

Making the comment during another appearance on the ITV show, he said: ‘The one thing I need to do is get fitter, I have put on a little bit of weight, that’s my next challenge to do a bit more exercise.

‘I might have to make a game of it when I go out an exercise to stay out of people’s way. I don’t have a garden so I have to find a way to do that.’

The Little Britain funnyman was previously told to reduce his daily calorie intake to 1,500 by doctors over fears he may develop diabetes.

Matt took the doctor’s warning serious after tragically losing his own father John to a heart attack in 1996.
