‘He’s the King of Gaslighting’: MAFS Australia’s British fans blast ‘toxic’ Mike Gunner for his treatment of Heidi Latcham… but he says ‘other people’s insecurities don’t concern me’

Married At First Sight Australia star Mike Gunner has been accused of ‘gaslighting’ his wife Heidi Latcham during the experiment.
The show, which first aired Down Under in 2019, has become a surprising hit in the UK and has helped many Brits languishing through lockdown – leading to excited debate, heated exchanges and new loves for viewers.
The electrician’s actions came into question through this week’s shows, when he locked horns with Jessika Power and then was seen to apparent ‘gaslight’ Heidi, yet since the show aired in Oz, he has stood by his actions.

Mike and Heidi’s chequered romance has seen the couple lock horns on a number of occassions and she has been frequently left hurt by his words.
Yet a prevalent accusation has been that he is ‘gaslighting’ with his words, starting very early on during their honeymoon when Heidi gave a heartbreaking insight into her difficult childhood, to which Mike said: ‘I’m not your therapist’.
‘Gaslighting’ is the practice of emotionally abusing another person with such conviction and confidence that the victim starts to doubt their own sense of reality.

Coming to his defense however, one viewer penned: ‘Does anyone else think Heidi on Married at First Sight Australia is just overreacting ever so slightly? I didn’t see her issue..I think Mike was being genuine Woman facepalming’.
Mike said after the show: ”I have done a lot of interviews and I have received a lot of criticism. I received comments like, I am ‘gaslighting’, I am a ‘narcissist’…
‘Other people’s insecurities don’t concern me… If they want to cast labels like that on me then that is a reflection of their own poor judgement, not mine.’

When the show first aired in Australia in 2019, Gabriela Pao, a woman claiming to be Mike’s ex-girlfriend accused him of gaslighting her during their relationship and issued a stern warning to Heidi.
She told Who: ‘I was crying all the time and he accused me of being emotional. He’s a charming guy and was fun and very sexual at the beginning.
‘He’d say horrible things to me at the start that I thought was my fault. He used to call me chunky and fat and made me feel horrible. I lost myself and became depressed.’
