Who’s That Girl? A youthful Madonna is seen posing playfully for rare pictures taken when she was aged 25 and her star was just rising – and fans now have the chance to snap them up

A rare contact sheet of photos of a playful Madonna during an early British shoot has emerged for sale.

The Queen Of Pop, whose music career has now entered its fifth decade, posed for London photographer Peter Anderson in Soho in 1983.

Sporting raven locks, the singer, who is now aged 62, is shown wearing a hat and dark clothing in the images where she mixes up her facial expressions.

Aged 25, she had the world at her feet having just released her first album, Madonna, featuring the singles Holiday and Lucky Star.

Anderson, a former NME staff photographer, is selling the 36ins by 28ins contact sheet, featuring 30 photos, with London-based auctioneers Bonhams.

The images of the star are expected to fetch a tidy £900 when they go up for sale on Wednesday morning in London, according to Claire Tole-Moir, specialist at Bonhams.

She said: ‘The contact sheet on offer was taken in 1983 in Soho, London while the photographer Peter Anderson was a staff photographer at the NME, as well as contributing to The Face, ID Magazine and Rolling Stone.

‘It is offered by the photographer himself it depicts Madonna aged 25 at the beginning of her ascent to the pop stratosphere.’

In the years since the pictures were taken, Michigan native Madonna would go on to be a dominating force in the pop world in the ’80s and ’90s, while she has continued to enjoy success with albums and tours in recent decades.

Such is her busy schedule that Madonna recently shared an Instagram post, in which she was seen exclaiming to one of her producers that the time in the studio, to made The Sound Mix for Madame X, was ‘so stressful’.

The Me Against The Music hitmaker was showing off her incredibly smooth complexion in the video, in which she said: ‘I was angry, I was tired, I was in pain, I was probably taking pain medication, I was just a mess of things.’

Speaking to the surrounding producers in the artfully shot clip, she said: ‘Whats up? I want it rough baby’, before she was seen discussing a piece of music and saying: ‘I like it! No, I just like what I like. Eugh this is so stressful.’

The clip then cut away to more exultation, when she said: ‘My god I’m so excited. Thanks for coming, you can go now.’

Wow: While the snaps were taken when her star was rising, it’s hard to miss her signature look

History: The sale will offer fans of the star a rare opportunity to hold onto a piece of pop history

While she did not reference what she was talking about, she went on to say her piece about how she was feeling, saying: ‘I was angry, I was tired, I was in pain, I was probably taking pain medication, I was just a mess of things.’

As well as showing off her work ethic and an insight into her ailments, Madonna was also showing off her remarkably smooth complexion.

Despite being casually-clad in a jumper, her face was flawlessly made-up with skin that far defied her sexagenarian status.

Her post comes after her daughter Lourdes Leon, 24, appears to be ready to step into the spotlight in spectacular fashion.

Despite launching a clothing line for Macy’s at age 13 and more recently appearing in select fashion campaigns, ‘Lola’ as she is known, has kept a relatively low-profile considering her mother is Madonna.

But in a new interview with Vanity Fair, Lourdes finally gave the world a glimpse into her ambitions – saying that one of her goals is to act on the big screen – as well as confirming that her ‘first boyfriend’ was Oscar-nominated actor Timothée Chalamet.

Born Lourdes Maria Ciccone Leon to Madonna, 62, and former personal trainer Carlos Leon, 54, she attended the elite Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in Manhattan alongside Timothée, 25, who she dated.

‘I respect him a lot, we were a little item. My first boyfriend,’ Leon says of her romance with the actor, in a surprisingly frank interview.

She may even be set to follow in his footsteps, as she told the publication that she would love to play the role of Mother Theresa on the big screen.

Hinting that the Queen of Pop had somewhat of a ‘stage mom’ persona growing up, Leon admits she was pushed hard when training for ballet.
