Madonna: Harvey Weinstein ‘crossed lines and boundaries’ when we worked together

In 1991, Madonna was in her early 30s and her documentary/reality show “Truth or Dare” was distributed by Miramax. Now, at age 60, the music icon is opening up about how Harvey Weinstein, who owned Miramax with his brother at the time, treated her back then.

In a wide-ranging interview for The New York Times Magazine, Madonna says, “Harvey crossed lines and boundaries and was incredibly sexually flirtatious and forward with me when we were working together.” She remembers that he was married, “and I certainly wasn’t interested.”

Madonna knew that Weinstein also acted that way toward other women in the business; it was an open secret. “And we were all, ‘Harvey gets to do that because he’s got so much power and he’s so successful and his movies do so well and everybody wants to work with him, so you have to put up with it.’”

When Weinstein’s hidden abuse finally came to light in October 2017, “I was really like, ‘Finally,’” she says. “I wasn’t cheering from the rafters, because I’m never going to cheer for someone’s demise. I don’t think that’s good karma anyway.”
