Love Island's Maura Higgins gives her thoughts on the show's ratings

‘The boys aren’t as hot… or maybe they need me in there!’ Love Island’s Maura Higgins gives her thoughts on the show’s plummeting ratings

She was the bombshell of last year’s show, who caused mass ructions.

So Maura Higgins is definitely an expert on keeping the show spicy, as she spoke to The Sun about her thoughts on why ratings are plummeting on the winter edition of the show which hit screens earlier this month.

The former grid girl, 29, who found love with Curtis Pritchard on the show, insists the boys are simply ‘not as hot’ in the current series and added that someone like her would help give the show the boost it needs.

Open and honest: Maura Higgins is definitely an expert on keeping the show spicy, as she spoke to The Sun about her thoughts on why ratings are plummeting on the winter edition of the show which hit screens earlier this month

In her candid chat, Maura confessed that she thinks Love Island’s ratings have dropped because she isn’t on the show.

Fans of the show have been left stunned after 800,000 people less tuned in than for Maura’s series last year, as claimed in a BBC ratings report.

The show was watched by 2.51 million on it’s launch night while the last series saw 3.3 million fans tune in for the summer’s debut.

The Irish beauty – who is currently competing on Dancing On Ice – believes there are less people tuning into the programme because she’s not in the famous villa.

Not hot: She said: ‘. But I feel like I don’t find the boys as hot this series. I don’t fancy any of them’ (Connor, pictured, however she did not specify which boy she meant)

Maura has discussed her friendship with skating professional Alexander Demetriou, admitting they regularly get intimate whilst training but she is ‘so relaxed’ about it.

She added to The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre TV column: ‘The awkward grabs do happen and we end up accidentally touching each other’s bits, it’s true…

‘It’s the closest you’ll ever get to someone outside of a relationship, but I don’t feel uncomfortable at all. I’m so relaxed with Alex, we get on so well.’

Not too happy… Maura admitted wasn’t so keen on twins Jess and Eve

Maura had previously revealed she had taken a liking to Shaughna, claiming they could be ‘besties’, whilst she admitted she wasn’t so keen on twins Jess and Eve.

She said: ‘I am loving Shaughna, I think she is so real. I’m loving the craic from her … she’s just real and her one-liners are just epic.

‘I reckon if I was in there this year she’d definitely be my bestie…

‘Not too keen on the twins … no, I just think they’re excluding themselves from the group and I don’t think it’s going to do them any favours.’
