Awks: Love Island’s Joanna Chimonides, 22 had an awkward reunion with ex beau Michael Griffiths, 27, as they came face-to-face on spin-off show Aftersun on Sunday

As the latest dumpee, Michael joined host Caroline Flack to give a low down on his time in the villa and his complicated love triangle.

But things soon turned awkward as he was joined on the sofa by Joanna where she wasted no time in telling him how she felt.

When asked how she felt about Michael not leaving the villa with him, Joanna said: ‘It was disappointing’ and ‘a bit embarrassing’, but declared that she was an ‘independent woman’.

The beauty was then questioned whether she really meant to call Michael a ‘snake’ upon her exit.

Showdown: The firefighter became the latest person to be dumped alongside Francesca and he was swiftly confronted by Joanna who told him: ‘I thought we had something really good!’

Joanna hesitated her about her answer causing the audience to start murmuring, before she went on to say she meant it at the time.

Commenting on Michael cracking on with Amber days after her exit, Joanna remarked: ‘It was a bit shocking. I knew there was a possibility, I just didn’t realise it would happen that soon!’

Michael was also grilled by host Caroline who questioned him about his comment that suggested that he’d found everything he was looking for in Amber, when in reality, he had actually said it about Joanna.

Trying to justify his actions, the firefighter stumbled over his words, saying: ‘You say things when emotions are high but it’s just that mine’s put on screen for everyone to view.

Tense: When asked how she felt about Michael not leaving the villa with him, Joanna said: ‘It was disappointing’ and ‘a bit embarrassing’

‘I’m pretty sure that people have been in these situations and you say things when there’s heightened emotions.

‘You wouldn’t have seen it, I was really down for a few days with Joanna leaving and it was just like, people were starting to put things back into my mind like “oh, do you actually think you and Amber are done?” or “is it still there?”

‘And then you get into a situation where you’re put in front of somebody and you’re like “do you know what? We have just made up” and it’s like, are those feelings still there?’

To which Joanna, after laughing, then hit back: ‘For me, it was just like, what changed? I thought we had something really good and now it’s like, I went away and a day later, two days later it was like totally different.’

As Michael tried to explain that it was possible to have feelings for two people at the same time, Joanna snapped: ‘But the problem is, I asked you several times.’

At that point the excited crowd cheered Joanna, with the pair giggling awkwardly while Caroline chimed in: ‘This could go on and on!’

Despite their awkward confrontation, Michael did hint that he would like to give things another go with her.

After Caroline asked if he would like to rekindle things with the business recruiter, he replied: ‘I want to talk to Joanna to be honest. I know that she’s not really thinking about that but like, the whole thing has been on my mind the whole time. It’s just what you see over the 24 hour period.’

With Joanna adding: ‘It is hard because when you’re in the villa, you get confused and you’re in your own little bubble but when you obviously come away from it and you look in and it’s like “OK, how’s things changed?” It is a difficult one.’

‘That was probably one of the hardest decisions that she was going to have to make and she did so well. Good on her!’

Since leaving the Mallorcan villa, Joanna has been open about how furious she is that Michael ‘constantly denied’ his feelings for Amber and chose to stay on the show, instead of leaving with her.

After Joanna’s departure, Michael has attempted to patch things up with Amber, and has been trying to prove to the beauty therapist that he could have chosen to leave with Joanna but instead stayed to pursue her.

However, Amber hasn’t succumbed to Michael’s recent grovelling as the 21-year-old snubbed him for newbie Greg in Friday’s recoupling.

Furious: The bombshell confessed to The Sun she will still talk to the firefighter (pictured) when he returns after he made a massive U-turn on his feeling towards ex Amber

Explaining her decision, Amber said: ‘It’s been the hardest decision that I’ve had to make, I really don’t know what the right thing to do is it’s hard.’

She added: ‘I’ve got one boy we’ve had history, we’ve had ups and downs but I can’t deny there’s a connection there and then I’ve got another guy that’s come in and put a smile back on my face when I’ve been miserable.

‘I didn’t shut him down after five minutes which was a good sign! It’s been hard for me to handle and it’s hard to choose whether to go with your heart or your head. Or whether you should go for a mixture of both, it’s been hard.’
