Lorraine Kelly returned to her ITV show on Monday after contracting Covid and being forced to stay at home.

The presenter, 62, was absent during last week’s episodes after testing positive for the virus, leaving Carol Vorderman to temporarily replace her.  

Resuming her usual role, Lorraine was quizzed by Dr Amir about her health before sharing his top tips on how to stay cool in the current heatwave.

He said: ‘Morning Lorraine, yes it’s very, very hot but first things first Lorraine, it’s great to have you back. How are you feeling?’

Lorraine replied: ‘Do you know, I’m fine. It was a nasty one, the dreaded Covid got me and it’s a nasty one. Amir, the worst headaches I think I’ve ever had in my whole life.

‘Completely floored me, I couldn’t actually get up without feeling really weird but I’m absolutely fine now.

‘Thank goodness, as I kept saying all the time, that I got the vaccine. God knows what I would have been like without that, but yeah, I’m good thank you and thank you for all your help.

‘It’s just so good to have you, to know that I’ve got you and I can phone you up at any time, I’m so lucky,’ she added.

‘Any time Lorraine,’ Dr Amir replied, before telling her: ‘It’s lovely to have you back.’

Former Countdown star Carol filled in for Lorraine last week as she recovered at home.

Lorraine broke the news on her official Twitter page last Monday morning, ahead of the show airing. 

The TV star wrote: ‘Covid has finally got me’ in a tweet on Monday as Carol Vorderman, 61, took over presenting duties on the ITV breakfast show.

Carol wished the regular host a ‘speedy recovery’ after being introduced by Good Morning Britain ‘s Susanna Reid and Ed Balls in what appeared to be a last-minute stand-in. 

‘Sadly Lorraine has caught the dreaded you know what, and I’m sitting in for a few days here,’ she said. ‘But we are wishing her a speedy recovery.’

The presenter then quipped: ‘I didn’t look like this at five o’clock this morning, that is for sure!’

Carol lit up the room in a canary yellow blouse featuring stylish cut-out detailing around the neck.

She teamed the summery number with a khaki bodycon skirt and styled her voluminous platinum tresses straight.

The former Countdown presenter sported a glam make-up look as she told viewers what to expect from the show. 

Later, she shared a gallery of snaps on Instagram and wrote: ‘So a bit of a surprise this morning. Wonderful Lorraine is a bit poorly with the dreaded Covid so I’m keeping her seat warm on her show for few days until she’s better.

‘Had a blast this morning with John McEnroe, Mystic Marcus the psychic pig predicting who our next prime minister will be, the wonderful journalist @shelaghfogartyabout her new podcast FOLLOWERS , and Sarah Vine who knows a thing or two about the same politics of our time.’
