Lena Dunham‘s fashion sense might not be to everyone’s taste, but there’s one person who thinks she can fix it: her mother.
“My mom is a very stylish woman and I would say that she and I occasionally butt heads over fashion,” Dunham, 32, explained of her relationship with mother Laurie Simmons during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Thursday.
When Kimmel asked whether Simmons likes her daughter’s style, Dunham responded, “Sometimes. But she’s said to me before, ‘Just let me pick. Just let me pick! I can do a good job.’”
Turns out that the 69-year-old artist has a knack for styling. “One time I did [let her dress me] and I got so many compliments. It was so annoying,” Dunham said.
The “Girls” creator and Kimmel then teamed up to prank Simmons by soliciting text-message feedback on purposefully terrible outfits. The first look received a swift “nope” (“too short and slutty when you are sitting down,” the star’s mom said), but the second and third weren’t totally panned, proving that Simmons can’t help but encourage her daughter’s unique personal style.
One look the artist couldn’t stand, however, was Dunham’s 2018 Met Gala makeup. Perhaps next year, she’ll style her daughter for the big night.
