Kylie Minogue gives rare insight into her life in Australia three years after ditching UK for Oz… following split from Paul Solomons over ‘struggles of a long-distance romance’

Kylie Minogue has shed light on life in Australia, since she upped sticks after 30 years in the UK to return to her native country.

In 2021, the star, 55, confirmed the move and on Friday’s episode of The Graham Norton Show, which is returning for a 31st series, she spoke about life Down Under – which reportedly led to the demise of her relationship.

The Can’t Get You Out Of My Head hitmaker, whose sister Dannii, 51, is also a singer and performer, said: ‘It is great being back with my family, and performing with Dannii was one of those ‘unicorn moments.’

In February it was reported that Kylie had split from her magazine executive boyfriend Paul Solomons after five years together when they struggled to make their long-distance relationship last.

She also detailed her struggles with early fame, having first achieved recognition starring as Charlene Robinson in Neighbours from 1986 to 1988, as she admitted she was often taken to dark places in the early days.

Happy days: Kylie Minogue has shed light on life in Australia, since she upped sticks after 30 years in the UK to return to her native country

It’s over! In February it was reported that Kylie had split from her magazine executive boyfriend Paul Solomons after five years together when they struggled to make their long-distance relationship last

Chatting away: Kylie admitted she doesn’t like being limited to a recording studio and discussed her new album Tension, saying: ‘ I like to record myself. You can record a song anywhere. In Lockdown we had no choice and I had to learn to self-record but now I love it’

She appeared on the show alongside actor Stephen Graham, actor and writer David Mitchell, comedian Mawaan Rizwan, and singer-songwriter Mae Muller.

Kylie was believed to have quietly arrived back in Australia in 2022. She revealed she would be leaving London after 30 years to return to Melbourne after spending time there during the pandemic and to be closer to sister Danii.

When asked in 2021 about rumours she was returning to her home country permanently, Kylie confirmed the news to BBC 2 radio.

Her move came in conjunction with the reports that she had split from her magazine executive boyfriend Paul. It was said they have parted ways with the former British GQ Creative Director after they struggled to make a long distance relationship work.

And as they appeared to struggle with the 11 hour time difference, a source told The Sun: ‘Kylie and Paul really tried to make things work but ultimately the time difference was a killer’.

Australian native Kylie returned to her home in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs after decades of living in the UK, while her Welsh boyfriend remains in the British capital.

Away from discussing her life in her native country, when asked about how fame affected her when she was young, she said: ‘I am asked a lot these days about what I what would say to my younger self…

‘I get quite emotional when I think about letting her know that she is not alone and what she is thinking is okay because it’s not all ‘water off a duck’s back’…

Way back: She also detailed her struggles with early fame, having first achieved recognition starring as Charlene Robinson in Neighbours from 1986 to 1988, as she admitted she was often taken to dark places in the early days

The whole gang: She appeared on the show alongside actor Stephen Graham, actor and writer David Mitchell, comedian Mawaan Rizwan, and singer-songwriter Mae Muller

The girls: The Can’t Get You Out Of My Head hitmaker, whose sister Dannii, 51, is also a singer and performer, said: ‘It is great being back with my family, and performing with Dannii was one of those ‘unicorn moments’ (pictured on stage in Sydney in February)

‘I did sometimes end up in dark places, but I turned to my family. I don’t know how different it would be if it was today with social media – it is very hard to shut yourself off from voices, critics, and your own thoughts.’

The show began with Kylie and Maawan performing the dance for her hit Padam Padam, after which she was asked about the video going viral.

She said: ‘It was wild. I wasn’t expecting that, and it was utterly thrilling to watch it unfold in front of me day by day. It was brilliant and so much fun.’

Kylie admitted she doesn’t like being limited to a recording studio and discussed her new album Tension, saying: ‘I like to record myself. You can record a song anywhere. In Lockdown we had no choice and I had to learn to self-record but now I love it…

‘I drag my kit around to all sorts of places and have even sent stuff from the bath or the back of a cab!’

Talking about her new songs getting a huge reaction from audiences, she said@ ‘It is so invigorating, and I am thrilled. It is such an exciting time, it’s a kind of a ‘pinch me’ moment. I am loving it.’

Elsewhere on the show, Stephen was talking about the new series of his restaurant-kitchen drama Boiling Point, said: ‘It is one of the finest things I have been part of.

Ha! Elsewhere on the show, Stephen was talking about the new series of his restaurant-kitchen drama Boiling Point, said: ‘It is one of the finest things I have been part of’

On producing the series, he went on: ‘There is not enough working-class drama on our screens and with our own production company we’re in a position to make that happen…

‘This time I am not front and centre because we wanted to give others their moment in the sun.’

David spoke about Unruly, his new book on the history of English royalty, says: ‘I love history and I love kings and queens…

‘I am particularly interested in the a-holes in crowns that did dreadful things that really weren’t very funny at the time, but because they happened so long ago, we can now laugh at them.’

Asked about Peep Show first airing 20 years ago, and asked if there might be a special, he said: ‘No, we are not organising an event. I am very proud of it, but having made it so long ago it reminds me of my own mortality!’

Mawaan was shedding light on his sitcom Juice, which he wrote and stars in: ‘It wasn’t easy to communicate such a surreal vision, but the live show had worked so I thought it work on telly.’

Sad times: Her move came in conjunction with the reports that she had split from her magazine executive boyfriend Paul. It was said they have parted ways with the former British GQ Creative Director after they struggled to make a long distance relationship work

Talking about fame, he says, ‘It is intense, a real transition. I did a scene with my mum and brother and it was emotional, I just couldn’t believe it – it was nuts given where we had come from.’

Giving him some advice, Kylie said: ‘It is a job, and you need friends and family to keep it real.’ Asked about his collection of silly walks, Mawaan demonstrated one before roping Graham and Kylie in.

Mae was the night’s performed as she belted out her current single Me, Myself & I live in the studio before joining Graham for a chat about her new album Sorry I’m Late, and Eurovision.

Asked how big a deal Eurovision was for her, she said: ‘It was interesting! It was a weird situation because it was such an amazing time. Thank goodness the album was ready to go. I was so busy and poured all my energy into it and I am very proud of it.’
