Kim Kardashian Reveals How She Manages Her Psoriasis in a Super Honest Instagram Video

Living with a chronic illness often isn’t easy, and it can come with a plethora of its own trials and tribulations—yes, I’m speaking from experience. But by opening up to her 141 million Instagram followers, Kim Kardashian has proven that even celebrities live and deal with chronic conditions, too.

Kim’s recent Instagram post promotes a forthcoming series of KKW Beauty products—”body make up, a liquid body shimmer and a loose shimmer powder.” But it also demystifies psoriasis, and shows how the condition affects Kim on a daily basis.

Sharing a video of herself applying her new body makeup line, as well as before and after photos, Kim got super honest with her audience about a health condition she has lived with for over a decade.

Per Heathline, “Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune condition that causes the rapid buildup of skin cells. This buildup of cells causes scaling on the skin’s surface.” Psoriasis can lead to inflammation, redness, and patches of skin that can crack and bleed. According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), approximately 7.5 million Americans are affected by the condition, making Kim’s post even more important.

While body makeup won’t be for everybody, nor should anyone feel the need to cover up the effects of their condition unless they want to, Kim’s results with her KKW Beauty products are pretty amazing:

I’m so excited for you guys to try my new @kkwbeauty Body Collection. It consists of 3 different products (body make up, a liquid body shimmer and a loose shimmer powder). I use them all separately and sometimes all together depending on the look I am going for. This one shown above is the body Make Up. This is what I use most often. I don’t always like my legs to have shimmer on them. I use this when I want to enhance my skin tone or cover my psoriasis. I bruise easily and have veins and this has been my secret for over a decade. I’ve learned to live with and not be insecure of my psoriasis, but for days when I want to just cover it up I use this Body Makeup. My formula is so creamy and buildable and has a smooth satin finish. It builds easily for a more full coverage if needed. It launches 06.21.19 at 12pm pst at kkwbeauty.com #kkwbeauty.  Stay tuned for some videos showing how i use it all.

As a person living with a chronic illness—multiple sclerosis is very much my boyfriend—makeup regularly provides respite from a sickly palor that just isn’t me.

While the Kardashians often present impossibly preened, Instagram-perfected, versions of themselves to the world, it’s refreshing that Kim isn’t afraid to show what her skin really looks like when she’s having a psoriasis flare. Demystifying chronic conditions is so important, especially as living with a variable, and sometimes surface-unseen, condition can often be an isolating experience.
