Kim Kardashian Is Renaming Her Shapewear Collection Following Cultural Appropriation Backlash!

Following pushback from critics, Kim Kardashian West is changing the name of her new shapewear collection.

As we reported, the reality star announced the release of her new line Kimono, which promises undergarment solutions for women in sizes XXS-4XL, in nine different shades to provide support for any body type/skin tone. While the collection is attempting to go where others have not, the name is definitely problematic.

In an Instagram caption on Monday morning, the momma of four opened up about the recent criticism, and why she decided to finally listen to the backlash:

“Being an entrepreneur and my own boss has been one of the most rewarding challenges I’ve been blessed with in my life. What’s made it possible for me after all of these years has been the direct line of communication with my fans and the public. I am always listening, learning and growing – I so appreciate the passion and varied perspectives that people bring to me.”

The KKW Beauty founder continued, explaining that she will be relaunching the brand under a new name:

“When I announced the name of my shapewear line, I did so with the best intentions in mind. My brands and products are built with inclusivity and diversity at their core and after careful thought and consideration, I will be launching my Solutionwear brand under a new name. I will be in touch soon. Thank you for your understanding and support always.”

The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star also shared the same message across three messages on Twitter on Monday.

What do U think she’ll call the line now?

More than a few critics — including the mayor of Kyoto, Japan — took issue with the name of her new endeavor, accusing her of cultural appropriation.

Her brand name also left many scratching their heads because the 38-year-old was somehow able to trademark the name of a traditional Japanese garment for her own monetary gain…

Last week, the entrepreneur responded via an official statement to the New York Times addressing the budding controversy:

“I understand and have deep respect for the significance of the kimono in Japanese culture and have no plans to design or release any garments that would any way resemble or dishonor the traditional garment. I made the decision to name my company Kimono, not to disassociate the word from its Japanese roots but as a nod to the beauty and detail that goes into a garment.”

Kim’s announcement also comes amid Taylor Swift calling the reality TV star out over her “orchestrated” illegal recording of the singer.
