Katy Perry accused of bullying American Idol contestant

Katy Perry is accused of ‘bullying’ a very nervous American Idol contestant as fans call the pop star’s constant negative feedback ‘ugly’

Katy Perry is getting some blowback for comments she delivered on an American Idol contestant’s voice.

Sara Bethe Liebe, a 25-year-old mom of three, appeared to be incredibly nervous as she stood in front of Perry, Lionel Richie, 73, and Luke Bryan, 46.

‘Freak us out, Freaky Friday,’ Perry said on Sunday.

Perry – who recently shared a cute flashback photo of herself – then made a rude remark about being such a young three-time mom, and then loudly said, ‘Is this your dream?’

She added, ‘If it’s not your dream, you might need to leave because there’s a lot of dreams behind you.’

Redhead:  ‘Freak us out, Freaky Friday,’ Perry said

Liebe sang Amy Winehouse’s You Know I’m No Good, and Perry interrupted her performance, saying ‘Come on, we need more,’ as Liebe continued.

‘That’s not enough,’ Perry said when Leibe was done singing. ‘Try Bennie and the Jets,’ she instructed, adding that Liebe had nothing to lose because it’s ‘not her dream yet.’

Perry urged her to ‘show us what your voice can do, take it to the limit, no looking back.’

She added, ‘Sing it like it’s your new dream.’

Liebe tried to incorporate Perry’s advice into her second song while Perry continued shouting demands at her while she sang.

‘More of that! Hold it out,’ Perry said before dubbing her ‘Accidental American Idol.’

‘I feel like a comic strip character just came to life,’ Perry said after Liebe was done, while Bryan expressed his ‘love’ for her performance.

‘Look, if it’s not your dream, it’s not gonna go far because I also respect everyone that’s walking through that door who will lay down their life for this golden ticket [to Hollywood],’ Perry told her

Bryan and Perry voted for Liebe to move on to the next round, while Richie ‘went with his gut’ and voted against her.

‘Sara Beth, you’re in the dream now. Go get your golden ticket. Hurry before the dream ends,’ Perry said, dismissing Leibe nonchalantly.

Fans of American Idol were quick to criticize Perry’s behavior.

‘I really do not like how Katy Perry just treated Sara Beth on AmericanIdol. They let Katy Perry bully this woman on live national tv before she even started singing. So ugly,’ a fan wrote on Twitter.

Another fan wrote, ‘Boo to Katy Perry for mom shaming Sara Beth. Insinuating that she has been ‘laying on the table too much’ to have 3 kids by age 25. A young mother following a dream while raising her children should be raised up not put down.’

But some people agreed with Perry’s assessment of Liebe.

‘Katy Perry judging a contestant and a show that judges contestants? Shocking. Ever heard of @SimonCowell,’ a fan tweeted.

Meanwhile another added, ‘Being honest is now bullying.’
