Kate Middleton Wore Something Totally Out of Character to Prince Charles's 70th Birthday

After months and months of watching Meghan Markle walk into family events wearing pastels, Kate Middleton is beginning to think pink herself. The Duchess of Cambridge stepped out to Prince Charles’s 70th birthday celebration in a color we haven’t seen her wear during an evening event in a decade, and it’s a standout moment.

While Middleton typically reaches for blue dresses for formal events, she instead chose to wear a pink gown that bares her right shoulder — also not a typical Kate style move.

Truth be told, we haven’t seen Middleton wear this color pink to a formal evening event since 2008, when she channeled Princess Diana at a Starlight Children’s Foundation event.

Tonight’s occasion called for some serious glam, so why not deliver? Middleton got dolled up in order to celebrate her father-in-law Prince Charles, who turned the big 7-0 on Wednesday.

This kind of milestone birthday is the sort of thing royals love to throw parties over, so it’s no surprise that everyone went all out. For Charles’s 60th birthday a decade ago, it was much of the same, only Middleton attended as Prince William’s girlfriend, and Harry brought along Chelsy Davy.
