Mystery! At the time, Madonna gave no hints as to which character Julia would play but a source tells EW it is Goodfellas star Debi Mazar

The stars met back in the 1980s in an elevator where Debi was working as an operator and instantly hit it off, the outlet reported.

‘We got on the dance floor and tore it up,’ Mazar previously told EW of their friendship. ‘We exchanged phone numbers and that was it. We became friends!’

The hitmaker was originally expected to direct her planned biopic and co-write it with Juno screenwriter Diablo Cody.

It was reported over the summer, however, the Cody bailed on the project after butting heads with Madge. Shortly after those reports, others emerged, refuting the rumors and claiming that Diablo and Madonna completed a scrip together.

In 2020, fans began speculating that Madonna might have her eye on Ozark star Julia Garner to play her after she began following the actress on Instagram.

In January 2021, an insider close to the singer claimed to The Mirror that Garner was a fan favorite, but Madonna (born Madonna Ciccone) was interested in Little Women star Florence Pugh to play a young version of herself.

Meanwhile, Madonna and Julia’s meeting raised quite a few eyebrows after the hitmaker shared photos on Instagram.

The stars had their hands all over each other in a snap of the two spread out on a beige sofa in the 1920s-themed eatery.
