John Legend’s New Swim Instructor Is… Former Olympian Ryan Lochte!? Look!

If you want to learn a new skill, why not learn from the pros?!

John Legend has done just that. Bent on his mission to learn how to swim, the Grammy winner has enlisted none other than former Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte to teach him.

Based on recent Instagram posts, it looks like their lessons are going… well, swimmingly!

On Monday, Lochte and the 40-year-old R&B star both shared photos and videos of their time in the pool. Progress was being made, according to the 12-time Olympic medalist, who wrote in his caption that Legend would soon be ready for the “2020 Olympics haha!”

He shared:

Looks like Johnny Boy will be a swimming Legend in no time!

The All of Me singer also made a joke about him training for next year’s Summer Olympics in his own post, which featured him doing laps with his swim instructor. Cheering on the goggle-wearing singer from the sidelines (read: adjoining kiddie pool) was Legend and Chrissy Teigen’s two-year-old daughter, Luna.

The star’s little girl isn’t the only one in the family proud of his efforts to learn the trade of swim. In January, the cookbook author proudly posted a video of one of John’s first swim lessons, writing:

“Adult swim with @kidswimla – so proud!!!”

And she should be! Days before, the crooner revealed to his fans that he never learned how to swim — so he was diving in with beginners lessons, months after his children, Luna and Miles, started theirs.

He revealed on Twitter at the time:

“I can’t really swim. Today I took my first swim lesson since I was like 5. My dad learned in his 60’s so I feel like I’m ahead of schedule.”

Now, the father-of-two is way ahead of schedule.

We mean, he’s no Michael Phelps — *yet* — but the artist is nailing his front crawl stroke. Observe:

2020 Olympics, here he comes!

Jokes aside, kudos to him for learning a new skill — one that could very much save his life!

The singer-songwriter’s swimming efforts came to light shortly after the Legend-ary family took a tropical vacation after the New Year. While poppa John likely didn’t spent much time in the deep water, it definitely looks like he’ll be ready to master the ocean by their next getaway.

The only question is… how much does Mr. Lochte charge for lessons??
