R&B star and social justice advocate John Legend has been named as one of three honorees to receive the National Civil Rights Museum’s Freedom Award for his “significant contributions to civil and human rights.”
The “All of Me” singer founded the “Show Me Campaign,” which aims to correct “system issues in our criminal justice system that disproportionately impact the poor, minorities and disadvantaged,” in addition to “elevate and celebrate teachers, the single most important factor for student achievement.”
The campaign, which started programs such as “Teach for America” and “Teach for All” received the 2018 Shorty Social Good Award for Best in Social Justice.
Other nominees include Hafsat Abiola and Gloria Steinem, who are set to receive the honor at an official award ceremony on October 30 at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles.
