The ‘Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness’ star is allegedly seeking $89 million as he claims he is not equipped with the necessary tools to appeal his conviction.
AceShowbiz –Joe Exotic, star of hit Netflix docuseries “Tiger King”, has reportedly been granted an extension in his wrongful imprisonment lawsuit.
The former zookeeper, real name Joseph Maldonado-Passage, who is currently serving a 22-year sentence in jail for plotting to kill animal rights activist Carole Baskin and other wildlife violations, claimed he wasn’t equipped with the necessary tools to appeal his conviction.
According to TMZ, Joe wrote a letter to the judge presiding over his case on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 asking for an extension in order to reply to the government’s documents in the civil case – as he’s been isolated in a federal prison medical centre in Texas due to COVID-19 concerns.
He is reportedly seeking $89 million in his wrongful imprisonment complaint and requested access to a computer and the prison law library to prepare his response since he currently can’t phone anyone or send emails.
“Sorry for the handwritten letter,” he penned. “However I am being isolated at the Federal Medical Center (in) Fort Worth and have NO access to a computer, phone, email or libary (sic) to respond to the government’s last request.”
“I am asking for at least (a) 30-day extension to the deadline of April 28th, 2020 in hopes I am allowed access to use things in order to properly answer their request,” he added.
Joe was granted a 30-day extension to respond by May 28, the gossip site confirmed.
“Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness” became an instant hit with fans last month, March 2020, having reached a U.S. TV audience of 34.3 million unique viewers within the first 10 days of its release, according to Nielsen estimates.
Several spin-offs, a reported movie, a TV series starring “Saturday Night Live” star Kate McKinnon, and an Investigation Discovery channel sequel are all said to be in the works.
