Jesy’s celebrations come as her new single Boyz peaked to the top of the UK and US iTunes chart on Saturday morning.

The song marks the singer’s first release since her departure of Little Mix and she collaborated with Nicky Minaj and Diddy.

But in a new interview Jesy has told how she wasn’t bothered by Nicki’s recent vaccine controversy.

Nicki repeatedly voiced her fears about the COVID-19 vaccine – including suggesting it could lead to impotency.

When asked by Vulture, “Given this is such a big moment for you and you will want things to go well, does the backlash to her vaccine hesitancy make you anxious about having her on your song?”, Jesy replied: “Not at all. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion. If Nicki feels like she hasn’t done her full research and she wants to know more about the vaccination, then that’s her opinion.

‘She’s there to be on my song, to do her part. She’s literally made my song even better. That’s nothing to do with my song and what we’re doing together.”

In the midst of promoting her new single, Jesy has spoken candidly about her struggles with depression during her time with Little Mix, and even told Glamour Magazine she hasn’t spoken to the group in a year.

Jesy revealed that there is a ‘distance’ between herself and the trio which she confessed is ‘weird’ given their proximity for nearly a decade.

She said: ‘I haven’t spoken to the girls. It is weird because for so many years we were as close as sisters, together every hour of the day for weeks, sharing beds, laughing, crying just 24/7 the four of us together and then… Nothing.’

Jesy announced her departure from the group one year after filming a BBC documentary Jesy Nelson: Odd One Out, in which she revealed she had attempted to take her own life after years of relentless trolling and abuse.

While she has spoken now about her relief at being free of comparisons from the other girls, Little Mix have continued as a threesome.

Jesy’s night out comes hours after the singer defended herself after being accused by fans of Blackfishing – a term used to describe a white person attempting to appear to have black heritage.

The Boyz music video saw the former Little Mix band member dress up in a series of racy ensembles while sporting a very tanned complexion.

In a recent interview with Vulture, she claimed that the term had never been directed towards her before her departure from the girlband.

She went on to defend herself, adding: ‘I’m very aware that I’m a white British woman; I’ve never said that I wasn’t.

‘But I mean, like, I love Black culture. I love Black music. That’s all I know; it’s what I grew up on,’ the Essex-born star said.

When quizzed about claims that some of her Instagram followers were blocked by her account after commenting that she appeared to be Blackfishing, Jesy said it may have been a member of her team.

The Power hitmaker later added that her management team have deleted comments and blocked users in the past, following years of trolling online.

‘I take all those comments made seriously. I would never intentionally do anything to make myself look racially ambiguous, so that’s why I was initially shocked that the term was directed at me,’ Jesy’s publicist told the publication.

A plethora of fans have taken to Twitter in a bid to make their Blackfishing claims heard, beginning with: ‘Jesy Nelson’s solo debut #Boyz is cute and the video was a fun 00s throwback.

‘But it’s 4 minutes of blatant cultural appropriation: – The Blackfishing – Lowriders and bikes – Gold teeth – The Blackfishing – The aesthetic – The hair – The lollipops – THE BLACKFISHING’.

‘sorry but i can’t stand jesy nelson why is she getting away with branding herself with this whole “hood” blackfishing aesthetic when she’s 100% white and from ROMFORD ??????’ wrote another.
