Back in August, Ben Affleck checked into rehab for the third time following an intervention from his estranged wife, Jennifer Garner.
Earlier this week, Affleck left in-patient care and penned a heartfelt message to fans in which he vowed to continue in his treatment.
“I am fighting for myself and my family,” Affleck wrote of his road to recovery.
Despite the fact that Affleck left rehab several times over the course of his stay, we’re sure Garner is pleased with his progress and will continue to support him in his battle with the bottle.
That doesn’t mean, however, that she has any interest in continuing her marriage to the man.
Jen and Ben have been separated since 2016, but complications over the custody of their three children have prevented the actors from finalizing their divorce.
Sources close to the former couple say the delay was largely a result of Jen waiting for Ben to get sober so that she could, in good conscience, work out a custody arrangement that would enable him to remain a part of his kids’ lives.
Now that he seems to be serious about steering clear of the booze, Jen has put their divorce proceedings on the fast track.
It was previously reported that Affleck filed divorce paperwork while he was still in rehab.
It now looks as though he did so at Jen’s behest.
According to a new report from E! News, Jen is so serious about finalizing the divorce that she convinced an LA judge to come out of retirement just to make this thing official.
The judge had presided over Ben and Jen’s initial filing, but because they took so long to pull the trigger, he entered retirement before they signed the final papers.
A new judge would mean starting the entire process over again, and Jen was having none of that.
So instead, with the same charisma and salesmanship she employs when convincing you to apply for a Capital One card, Garner talked the judge into hopping back on the bench one final time.
We think it’s safe to say she and Ben will officially be exes sometime in the very near future.
